I have seen several posts from members with spikes showing up at this point during a scan. I have had some too(recently). Could it be a bad batch of media? I burn Sony/TY 8x+Rs.

I have read posts that said it may be firmware. Any input on this. I am not having issues with Verbatim 16x+R. They are scanning 98+ consistently.

I have Benq 1655 with BCDB firmware and I use Nero 6.6.018 to burn.

Thanks...NytBurnr

If the spikes appear at the same point each time, it is a function of a misinterpreted command from the drive and has nothing to do with the disc. Scans are relatively crude ways to determine the quality of a recording since they can mistake command codes as meaningful. K-Probe is designed for Lite-On based drives and Plextools for Plextor drives, but even they sometimes have hiccups.

That is great info. Would it be different with different media? The Sony/TYS have it and the Verbs don't. Also, when the spike is there on the Sony/TYs, it is at the same point, but it is not always there. I thought I might have gotten some bad disks. I have a spindle of 50, and I was near the bottom when I noticed Some consistency on the spikes. These are not just 1 liners. They are thick and taller than the rest of the scan by far.

I am very interested in your thoughts on scans and I very much appreciate you entering them on this post. Any other info you can give on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

Does this mean, in your opinion, that an update of firmware might remedy the problem?
