Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone who can read error messages on failed burns can interpret the one pasted below -- from an attempt to burn Freedomland.

I used DVDFabDecrypter, the latest beta version, then compressed with Shrink, then proceeded to try and burn with Shrink. It froze about 49% in and quit after one hour. Ultra DMA setting is set.

This has happened during my last couple burns on two different movies. Most recently yesterday with Hidalgo -- exact same problem and procedures except the write froze at about 75%.

Any ideas? I'm thinking my DVD burner has finally called it quits after 18 months of heavy usage. Anyway, here's the error message from Shrink:

Thanks in advance!!

@stylepts,

It looks like a media issue as suggested by this field of the log..

Media Specific [16..63]:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

All zeros indicate that the burner was unable to correctly recognize the media you're using and therefore had no write strategy for it to burn to it correctly.

Your burner's firmware appears to be up to date, so no problem there. Try slowing down to a write speed of 4x and see if it helps.

If not, I suggest you dump those (Disc Manufacturer: FUJIFI - LM03) fuji film disks and try using verbatim.

Here:
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2286159 (508:02.09, 4465MB)

You may be burning too close to the disks outer edge, have shrink create smaller custom file sizes of 4300MB. Goto shrink's preferences and change the target size to custom and enter a value of 4300.

If you have Roxio installed as well, make sure it's drag to disk application is disabled while burning with nero, there could be a possible conflict between the two.

Since your version of nero is a bit old, consider updating it to version 6.6.0.18, the info for this is in this thread..

johnl123,

Thanks for the help, I think you were right about it being bad media. I'm using Imation DVD-R in a 50-pack from walmart. 5 dvds in a row had failed burns, then the 6th one burned fine. I think it was a bad batch in the spool.

Btw, freedomland was such a terrible movie it was a waste of a 30 cent disc!

You're welcome....sticking to using only quality media is always the way to go, sure sometimes it may cost more, but you know what they say about getting what you pay for.
