The best way to backup a DL disk to a DL disk is with DVD Decrypter.

Set the Mode to ISO Read and rip the DVD to your HDD.
Set the Mode to ISO Write.
Select the MDS file associated with the ripped DVD.
Burn.

Make sure your burner firmware is up to date and capable of booktyping +R DL media as DVD-ROM.
Use excellent quality DL media, i.e., Verbatim +R DL.
Don't overburn, i.e., burn too fast.

Burn the ISO image with IMGBurn. Made by the guy who created DVDecrypter but is updated and handles the layer break in DLs better than any other product.

unolord is right. ImgBurn has been updated a few times since it was created so it only figures that the burning engine is better than DVDD.

do i still use decrypter to read and then burn the image with imgburn and just leave all the settings the way they are or should i read the disc with dvdshrink and just uncheck remove layer break option. if i use shrink and imgburn to burn will img burn insert the layer break where it was on the orginal and also one more thing im thinking of upgrading my burner to a Pioneer DVR-710B5PK was wondering if this was a good burner and will it work with imgburn

lilturk1, just use DVD Decrypter to both read and write. It's simple and it works. Just follow the other suggestions about firmware and burning speed and quality media as well. ImgBurn is a fine program but why complicate your life needlessly. It's the one I use or I wouldn't recommend it. I'd use ImgBurn if I had a DL disk I created in another authoring program but for a 1:1 copy, I would use DVDD.
