help playing downloaded movies into house dvd player

Please help,
I have downloaded movies and burned into dvd+r discs but I can view them in the computer but not in a regular house dvd player.
I guess that is something to do with the file extension which is AVI.
Should I need to change the file extension before burning it?
Please I need your expertise.
My kid is waiting to see his new movies.

where did you get the movie? was it a pay site ?if it was it should have instructions on how to convert the files to the right format so you can play the video on a standalone player how did you put the file to disk ? did you put it as data? some new players support divix or AVI files, a little more info would help

What it probably is, is that you downloaded an American movie so the signal well be NTSC what you need to do is convert it to PAL or vice versa.

You can use Winavi (not free) or cucusoft pro (not free) I do not know of any free programes, sorry.

I use Winavi and it will convert your movie into the correct format (NTSC/PAL) and put the movie onto DVD.

Your DVD Player probably cant handle a NTSC or PAL signal.
