I don't have a problem backing these up either
However I am curious exactly what protection is being used for this one problem
I back up underworld as usual no problem but when I watch the backup there is about a 60 second scene at 1 hour 16 mins which freezes to one frame
Right after the ship blows up and when the camera scans down and to the left across the rocks
I was able to get around this by running it through shrink at no compression to make a clean output folder
but there is still a slight stutter if you look closely
I am simply curious if this is some new protection and how I can keep my eyes open for it

To all of you I recommend checking this scene on your backups

Thanks

@those needed helps and or interested in FREE tools

All you ever needed is/are DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker and DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 (your choice) and you should be all square away. The fastest and most easiest is to go with DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker, then the rest is history. **NOTE: DVDFAB Decrypter only take 12 minutes to rip and 5 minutes to process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker.

Here http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-movie-DVD-DVDFAB-Decr... is my revised "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker (FREE tools)" and Nero Recode 2 guide. You can substitute Nero Recode with DVD Shrink if you want to. DVDFAB Decrypter and VobBlanker has "never" let me down.

Good luck and happy burning.

caleb7777, Sounds like a disc media trouble you are having. I backed this movie up to a 4.7GB with no trouble plays fine using SONY DVD-R (MIT) What type of media are you using and are you backing up the origial disc if not the copy or file may be flawed or corupted. I used the next to the latest update AnyDVD 5.9.6.2 (In the backround)and Nero 7 Recode 2.:P

I just did this movie a couple hours ago. I burned everything, except the French soundtrack, to a single layer disc.
I used DVD Shrink with Nero burning. As usual, AnyDVD was running in the background. There was no problem at all.
Good luck, y'all!

I cannot get Underworld Evolution to rip using the latest version of DVDFab. It stops at VTS_01. Anyone else having this problem? I tried it in 3 different drives on 2 different computers, I had the same problem on all of them.

I'm thinking I have a bad disc, as this has never happened before and the disc is just about flawless, with one extremely minor scratch.

Any ideas? I'm gonna have to get a new one I think.

So far the one thing I have noticed about this movie is that it is acting slightly different than the others with the same encryption. I genereated a PSL a ripped again only to have it bomb out at 95% where it should inserted a dummy sector. Granted I know from everyone elses posts that there is an easier way to do this. I just thought I would go on the road less traveled and see if maybe I can pick up a few new things along the way. I picked up Firewall as well. I guess I'll try Firewall later and start a new thread or find one already in progress.

To me it's fun when they don't work. It gives me a new challenge.

Well interestingly enough the way I have done all the others in PGCEdit seems not to work with Underworld Evolution because of that error I was receiving at 95%. I noticed some weirdness even with VOBBlanker. Using AnyDVD though brought success with DVDDecrypter and also with DVDFab (though you may run in to probs using AnyDVD and DVDFab together). Both rips went pretty fast and both loaded up fine in Shrink. There is still some unreferenced material that I would like to get rid of but I am pretty sure I can take care of that in PGCEdit. Now it's on to Firewall.

ripped it today, dvdfab ran through vobBlanker then used shrink. no problems whatsoever. i did burn it onto 2 dvd's though. i burned one dvd with just the play menu and main movie, and one dvd with just the menu and the extra's. i didn't want to compress this movie.

@ khlockett

AnyDVD runs in the background. If you would like you may rip the movie to the HDD by right clicking the mouse on the little fox in your task bar.

Or you may open Shrink or Recode2 to shrink the image. If you are going to use DVDFab decrypter on the movie then you should exit AnyDVD unless you are able to shrink the movie.

It is a very simple program but must be used in conjunction with at least one or two more to get the movie burned.

What burning engine are you running?

You should try using AnyDVD with DVDDecrypter to rip in File Mode. Then Shrink with the Nero burning engine to compress/encode/burn. It worked fine for me. I didn't have any trouble with DVDFab either though.

Basically after you install AnyDVD you don't really have to "run" it. You obviously need to start the program but it will run in the background and will minimize itself to the system tray. It should show up as a little fox head. If the head is kind of grayed out then it is turned off and you will need to right click on it and check "Enable AnyDVD".

I would just leave AnyDVD alone and use DVD Decrypter in File Mode to rip. AnyDVD will do what it needs to do while DVD Dec is ripping.

Has anyone here tried the latest AnyDVD upgrades either 5.9.6.2 or 5.9.6.3 running in the backround with just one burn engine of your choice (hopefully). As I have mentioned you will see that AnyDVD is currently running ahead of any like program performance wise handling the very complicated encryption found with Sony Arccos and Macrovisions RipGuard all by it's lonesome or in my instance with me using Nero Recode which has no built in decrypter which is why I have found the latest AnyDVD upgrades so amazing in there abilities. I would normally include either SHRINK 3.2 or VOB Blanker 2.1.0.0 when backing up a film with Arccos or RipGuard.

No longer is this needed though I can't speak for whether this would also be the case on films that have non-compressible portions like the recently released "When A Stranger Calls" for which I used both SHRINK and VOB Blanker to back up. Ease of use is always welcomed due to the fact I don't always have time to be challnged by encryption particularly when I'm just backing my original purchased copy (Normally FULLSCREEN). If you guys are using the latest AnyDVD updates try this method and let us all know if it works for you when acompanied by your choice of burn engine.:P
