Hey yall....Just an update on backing up this movie. I've used several version of AnyDVD from my old version 5.9.4.8 to 5.9.6.3 and didn't work. But now I updated to 6.0.1.1 and it finally worked. What a tricky movie to back up!!! If you have problem backing up your movie, just remember to update your AnyDVD, it will save you a lot of hassel.

What is Sony doing??? Did anyone notice the 8.6GB cells in Chapter 1?? There are 5 of them for a total of over 46GB of Virtual garbage Data. I mean they could have made it less obvious that there was corruption in there...

BTW, like every other Sony Movie, this one fits perfectly on a DVD5 with no compression. I have yet to back it up, but it looks like about 4GB for the movie only with Main menu and maybe 6GB for movie + extras. The reason for making movies of such low video quality is to make Blue Ray movies look so much better. That makes me mad...

It still looks pretty damn good. You are right, 100% no compression movie only. Was not a hard movie to back up.

Could you imagine if it had double the information though? The movie was done at about 4250 kbps. The max quality could have been nearly 9500 kbps so this is about 50% to 52% quality!!! Well at least is isn't 130 minutes long and the same size...

If I would have been in charge of this movie, I would have made it a 2 disc set. Disc 1 movie only with 1 Dolby 5.1 audio and subtitles filling up the DVD9 all the way.

Then in Disc 2, I would have made it the extra features and previews on a DVD5.

Sony could have called it a "Platinum Edition" or "Ultimate eXtreme Special Limited Ultra Platinum Diam<>nd Edition!!!" Maybe it would cost an extra .0003 cents to make each box, but people would be happy, plus they could have charged maybe an extra $5 for the first two weeks.

Does anyone know what is up with Title 26 on this DVD, i was backing it up, and i wanted to keep the special features, and not have to compress it, or use a DVD9. Title 26 is a little over 1h30m but has nothing in it, title 26 chapter 1 is 30 minutes long, then it has a bunch of other chapters shorter, but everytime i try to view them using multiple dvd player programs, they all freeze up

Any idea what this is for? like maybe a special pc dvd rom feature or is it just a new way to make it harder to back up your dvd's?

I got the movie on DVD-5. But I'm not telling how or what I used to get it on there because it's illegal (Hint: I got it before I should, and the picture is CRAP)!

Title 26 is FAKE!!! Do not rip the VTS!! I made a fix for this DVD as well as a guide, but I formatted everything, so I am not sure if I will have it. I will look for it tonight, and post it if I backed it up.

Edit: Really, stupid of me.... I backed up the word version of the guide and not the PDF, so it is a lot larger of a file and does not have the nice arrows on the images. Also, deleted the fix. I will just remake the movie only + music video fix for 100% compression.

For now, I am posting the guide. Also, take note of which sections are optional and this guide will be temp until I get the PDF version remade. However, that may take a while since I have nothing installed on the PC:

Underworld Evolution/Third Variant ARccOS guide [approx 5mb]: http://rapidshare.de/files/23367146/ARccOS_Guide_UnderEvo.doc.html

@sooobadd

"Underworld Evolution" burns at NO compression if you do just the main movie on a DVD5GB. It is not a difficult burn.

Ok so here's my 5 cents worth...

I always have my pc autostart AnyDVD at boot. I had NO issues making an ISO of U:E with DVD Decrypter except the VTS_26 IFO/BUP which after clicking ok to the error DVDD finished successfully.

A friend used DVDFab Gold/Platinum and couldnt rip it. When I had him load up his AnyDVD the DVD Drives WERE DISABLED and were not decrypting the movie..even in decrypter! I had him REMOVE the movie, reboot, turn on AnyDVD, put in the disc, and wham-o made an ISO just like I listed above. He put this on a DL and watched it on his settop NO Problems!

So for anyone having troubles with it AND AnyDVD check your settings and see if your roms are disables (they normally show empty or no disc NOT disabled!) Dont know if the movie did this since he doesnt boot with anydvd running but found it curious!

Also, I frequently suggest a combination of AnyDVD, DVDD, rip in file mode-movie only, and then use IFOEdit to create the rest of the missing DVD Structure (Video_TS, IFOs and BUPs) and have always had success as well (even when manually splitting movies across two discs.) The thing to remember is that if the main movie IS NOT the VTS_01 then the VOBs must be renamed to the VTS_01_xx.vob structure to have them work right in a dvd player! If you are splitting in two then:

make a disc one folder and a disc two folder. In each folder place a VIDEO_TS folder. Divide the movie VOBs between the two VIDEO_TS folders being sure that they follow the format VTS_01_01.VOB, VTS_01_02.VOB etc IN EACH folder. This means that if there are 7 main movie files that you could put 4 in disc 1 and 4 in disc 2 but disc 2's vobs MUST begin with VTS_01_01.vob as well... so rename them IN ORDER

Next in IFOEdit click on 'create ifos' at the bottom of screen. point the files to the FIRST VOB in disc 1 folder. Click on th eoption to use the same directory for the output files... wait whiel your DVD structure is created. Then do the same thing for disc 2 folder you created.

This will give you movie only, split across two dvd's. Of course if the movie will fit on one DVD then there is no need to split it and you can just rip the movie files, make sure they are VTS_01_xx.VOB and follow the same instructions above leaving out the info about disc 2 folder.

There are PLENTY of ways to exercise your FAIR USE rights on YOUR PURCHASED movies... so if one way doesn't work don't worry another way surely will! As long as the ability to decrypt the content exists!

And Alkohol does have a great guide so check it out!

Hey guys/gals, how's things? I'm tearin what's left of my hair out tryin to backup Evolution. I've used AnyDVD 6.011 w/Decrypter 3.54 and Shrink 3.2 and AnyDVD w/CloneDVD2 2.8.9.9. and getting great results with the video, but have made my first three coasters because of the directors comments on every one!! In Shrink and CloneDVD2 it only shows one title/movie where other movies have had two movies(one with & one w/o the directors comments)and the larger of the two was usually the one with the comments, or it's listed in the audio files in Shrink. While it does have it's interesting trivia, it's NOT what I'm after, if ya know what I mean.

I've tried backing up just the movie twice, once using Shink/DVD Decrypter and again with CloneDVD2 and the third time using Shrink/DVDD w/some of the behind the scences stuff, and all have the directors voice over!! Aaargh!!!

With CloneDVD2 I've tried ripping it to my hard drive using both the title only and the entire movie, but I can't find anywhere where I can delete the directors comments. I'm new to AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 with this movie, and previously havn't had any problems w/Shrink and DVDD other than DVDD wouldn't crack this movie.

It's gotta be something simple I'm overlooking, but I'm on my second day and I've gone thru CloneDVD2's manual and every walkthru I can find to no avail. Could someone help a blind old man out here?
Thanks for any help and running a great site! C-ya

BTW, I'd run my puter specs, but I really don't think that's the issue here but will If ya think they'd be helpful. DVD+R blanks are TDK 4x, burn speed 4x, w/no prior problems 'till now.

After ripping Evolution again to the hard drive and playing with it in Shrink(because you can review w/audio...hint,hint)and it seems that if you try to reauthor just the movie, the comments will play in review, but if you use the full disc button and review the movie, the comments are gone. So this time I'll try backing up the full movie(which I don't want & w/mucho compression)and see what happens. If anyone has copied just the movie only I'd be interested in how they did it. Makes me wonder if this isn't some crap of Sonys'.

Methinks it's time to invest in RW blanks........

FYI......Tried backing up the full disc thru Shrink/DVDD and still have the filmakers comments. The movie starts up by it's lonesome instead off the menu screen. Tried starting w/the menu screen and same ol stuff. Went to Special Features and tried turning off commentary and no go. I can't belive any of these great tools can't allow me to b/up this damn thing! Will wait for some clearer heads for ideas..........Thanks

That movie would not open with my normal Nero Recode with AnyDVD. I used AnyDVD>Shrink to do movie only 100%no compression>burn with Nero.

If you want to wait for a few hours (about 8 hours or so as I am leaving in a few minutes), I will post a fix for this movie with ripping instructions. It will get movie only + main menu + music video and all languages/subtitles. Also, it will fit on a DVD5 with no compression.

You can also choose to use the ARccOS guide I posted. If you are dong movie only, you can lose almost all the steps. Just follow the ripping instructions for the main movie only, then create new IFOs with IFOEdit. After that, use FixVTS and then Recode/Shrink/Nero/etc...

You can also choose to Demux with Decrypter and reauthor with IFOEdit. You might (most likely) lose the subtitles though.

JaguarGod, thanks for your reply.

I got nuttin but time, so ya, I can wait. I went thru this thread again looking for tips and tried Alkohols' guide using VobBlanker. As I have the trial of AnyDVD it wasn't necessary, but it was informative so I tried VobBlanker out. Stumbled thru it enuff to find the audio files, but it's the same as Shrink shows. 5.1 in French and English and 2channel English. It appears they've hidden the directors comments as I seem to recall they're usually listed.

I did download your guide but when I opened it goofy things started going on. Upper right corner had a blinking message box showing it was importing files from who knows where, so I dumped it quick. Maybe it got corrupted, who knows.

Now I'm pretty green backing up, and fairly comfortable using DVDD and Shrink. I've tried looking at the settings, but most of it is still over my head, so it looks like Sony wins for now. The jurys still out on CloneDVD2, as they should be up on this stuff!!

Till then......C-ya

Ok im having probs backing up Underworld Evolution no matter what Im using, Im trying it again now with Dvd Decryptor which is running through PgcEdit and so far ive gotten an error wich I selected abort and it kept going. The error said
E 18:38:57 Failed to read Sector 139136 - Unrecovered Read Error
E 18:38:57 Failed to decrypt VTS_01_1.VOB!

So Im hoping I can use VOB afterwards but im unsure how to use that since I never had.

It won't work in DvdFab either cause I get a Crash Dump error using it.

Anyone have any ideas to help me through this please?

Thanks

I am surprised that DVDFab Decrypter didn't work for you. Make sure you have the latest update and try again. It could be the disk you bought has a bad press.

Try opening it with VobBlanker. Tell it to process all. After it is processed then open it in DVDFab Decrypter. After the file is decrypted you may always use VobBlanker to blank some unwanted or undesired material.

Good luck!
