I use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x for most of my back ups and I am debating on whether I should pick up some Verbatim DVD-R made in Singapore.

Does anyone have any info on Verbatim DVD-R 8x MCC02RG20 vs. Taiyo Yuden Value Line DVD-R 4x?

If those Maxell's are made in Japan, good but if made in Taiwan not so good. Memorex are just not good where ever they're made.

@ chuy605

Yes, AnyDVD is a great program, however, I post a lot on this forum and there are other programs that can do the job for free the new DVD's that you refer to as smart. I have AnyDVD which works fantastic, but many people that post here do not want to or have the money to buy programs. If you look at the first post on this thread I gave an example of what programs to use.

The other thing that you need to keep in mind is that some movies have both wide screen and full screen versions. To have both on a DVD-5 will give you bad resolution on your shrink. This factor may not affect you; however there are many people with big screen TV's that really notice it.

Happy burning!

Hey, guess what. I just used the rip it to hard disc feature on AnyDVD and it won't let me process it with Shrink. Even with the "Remove unreferenced and blank cells" feature ticked. Strange huh? I am now using DVDFab Decrypter+VobBlanker.

Now that is strange. I don't think I've ever come across one that AnyDVD and Shrink(ripping and shrinking) could not do.

Try it for yourself. Also, the DVDFab+Shrink works for me.

@gogochar

AnyDVD uses an older version of FixVTS which may or may not be the problem. I did this with RipIt4Me which ran the file through FixVTS and Shrink had no trouble with it. Are you using the latest ver. of AnyDVD?

Has anyone had problems burning an .iso image using Memorex 16X DVD's? I am using DVD Shrink to create the .iso image and DVD Decryptor to burn. I have already wasted 5 DVD's and think the issue is probably with the 16X speed. This is the first time I have used 16X DVD's and feel that the fast DVD's may be an issue. In the past I have used 8X DVD's and they have worked just fine. Ofcourse my DVD burner can handle the 16X speed.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi born2ride,

I tried burning at various speeds including 4X, 8X, Max speed and always got an error. In the past, I have successfully done this numerous times and the only variable here are the 16X DVD's. That is why I was wondering if people out there are indeed using 16X DVD without any problems? I did google the issue also and found some threads that mention that sometimes there are bad batches of DVD's????? I don't know how true that is. The other thing that comes to my mind is that my computer (2 years old) may not be able to handle the high DVD speed. I am getting frustrated and am going out now to get 4X or 8X DVD's. If that does not allow me to burn the .iso image, I am going to be a very unhappy camper - #%$#^^&%^$%^.

Thanks guys.

Now this has got my interest going.......

Just to experiment, I tried burning a CD and it worked perfectly. I put in a brand new DVD and tried to burn a small excel spreadsheet to it and it gave me an error message. Why would the same burner work with a CD but not on a DVD? BTW, the DVD burner worked fine until last week. I don't know what happened to it. Any experts around?????

Thanks.

Sounds like an ASPI issue to me....I would get my hands on a copy of Nero InfoTool and see if my system ASPI is corrupt.

Locoeng:

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try that. However, I called Dell yesterday since the computer is still under warranty and the Dell rep. said that he will send me a new DVD burner today (this was after we tried unsuccessfully to update the firmware). A part of me thinks that this will not solve my problem but I will try the new DVD burner and see what happens. I am going to try your suggestion now.

Thanks for the help.

Gentlemen: The replacement DVD burner did the trick. Apparently the DVD burner somehow got messed up. I do however want to ask the gurus on this forum why it is that some reproduced DVD's will work on one DVD player but not another? I have a SONY and a JVC DVD player. Some of the DVD's (sometimes) will not work on one of the DVD players. When I insert the same DVD into the other DVD player, it will play just fine. No problems playing the reproduced DVD's on the computer.

Thank you for your time.

Probably because of the player's firmware not liking the brand of dvds being used.
Also, do you use paper, stick-on labels? If so.......STOP! I used to use them, and quit, when I saw the problems they cause. I still have some of my older burns with the labels on them. When I try to watch one, and have problems, I peel off the label, clean the sticky stuff off, and then the movie plays fine. If those that won't play for you have paper labels, take them off like I said, and try playing it again........
