If you had a choice between a slightly used version 7 and a brand new version 14 which would you choose? Ever which one I get I plan on having it modded. The brand new v.14 one will cost $20 more than the slightly used v.7.

Thanks

depends on which you want ... fat or slim ... if it was me i would get the v7 ... they say that the v7 is the best ps2 version out of them all plus it has a fan and the v14 will overheat sometimes so go with the BEST ... v7

I have a V7 with a HDD, its lasted me over 3 1/2 years, the fan is loud, but i like the fat one over the slimline, mainly because of the hardrive for i dont hvae a usb hdd for the slimline.

A v7 with a HD will save alot of wear and tear on the laser, plus a v14 might have overheating issues.

I have had a version 7 PS2 since Christmas '02. After a quick adjustment to the laser assembly thing to fix DVD reading problems, it works great. I don't see any reason to replace.

agree with most of the above.
V7 is said to be the best they ever made.
I also own one myself and it has worked well for years
The slimline's do have a problem with overheating, and you can forget about adding a good (internal) hard drive without shelling out quite a bit of money for a good set up.
The V7 on the other hand all you will need is HD Loader, a compatible hard drive, and the network adapter it should come with.

If you plan on backing up games for your kids so that the originals stay in good shape and never have to be replaced then you may want to consider saving up the extra $100 and buying a premodded system.
If that interests you PM me and i can link you to a site that sells them and has both the slimline and V7 models with modchips. And are also friends so you can trust their work.
