Yeah, I made another thread earlier today, but seems the heavy load on the site fubar'ed it, because every time I click it I go back to the forum menu. Thread is in this forum called "Several AVi's on one DVD?" or something like that.

Anyway ill try again, a little more brief this time.


I want to put several .avi files onto one dvd. These are all around 700mb (legally obtained) and id like to fit more than one onto a DVD.

I have read many threads and guides on this forum, but none about this. I tried a few days ago, to put it onto a CD with Nero and it did some encoding for about 40 minutes, then told me the file was at around 1200mb and the cd didnt have enough space. But with a dvd theres room for 3-4 of those things. I have tried the guide on this forum about avi's and ended up with around 4.3gb, which is great and all, but it took some 16 hours and I was hoping to put more than one file on the DVD. Obviously, I want my stand alone dvd player to be able to play these files aswell.

Ive been fiddling with Nero 7, Alcohol 120%, TMPGenc, VirtualDub, ImToo DVD Creator, IfoEdit, DvdShrink 3.2, AviCodec and so on, but cant seem to find anything that can help me.

So the question is, can you? :)

Can your stand alone player play AVI files?
If it can, then burn them as a data disc. If not, then you have to convert them to dvd format.

It cant. Cheap piece of crap ;-)

What I was hoping to hear was, that some sort of encoding was available where my poor innocent 700mb file isnt turned into a violent 4.3gb monster that takes most of a day to transform. I have a few to burn, and dont wanna spend 3 months in the process :-)

the encoding time is depend on your computer specification.

Yeah.. its a piece of crap too, haha! Nah, not really... but its nothing overly fancy. Still fast enough to play brand new games etc.

I am currently trying out Nero Vision Express, it seems to have the features I was looking for, its in the process of encoding now, anticipating 6 hours total. About 1˝ hours in the making... I put 3 AVI files there, and it lowered the quality a little on them. Seems kinda perfect, even made a dvd menu for me! But we'll see in some hours when its done... the horrible truth!

I will update when I know more, still appreciating any advices or hints that people could provide me as to how I can overcome this problem of mine!

try to put more ram it will run faster.
and also donot multi task while encoding this will slow down the process..

Kinda missing the point here... im not looking for faster decoding times, well... not in that way anyway!

Other than that you're absolutely right, 1024 ddr2 ram are not enough. I usually wait for 1 thing to break, then update the parts that needs it. Motherboard+processor and fans. Next time maybe ram+monitor and videocard. You know, half n half so its not a HUGE expense every 2 year, I can rarely afford that.

Update!

Heavy lightning last night cut the power and I had to start over, encoding took just over 4 hours for 3 files. Its working perfect in both of my stand-alone dvd players, not running too fast, but thats to expect from burned dvd's.

Nero Vision Express was the way to do it :)
