a couple things:
1. Does the PS2 play everything else fine?
2. What did you use to make the movie and have you done thios before so you know how to make a movie back up?
3. was the back up from an original disc, if not what type of file was it.
4. have you made any working back ups with those discs before?

TDK are ok but not really that great, also a lot of PS2 just do not read the RW discs well.

DVD+RW/-RW are not very good for the PlayStation 2. These discs, according to what I heard, are very harmful to the laser. Never use re-writable media. Only use DVD-R media for videos. Remember this: ONLY go for Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DVD-Rs. They're the best for burnt material and are good for your PlayStation 2's laser. NEVER buy Memorex, Imation, or any kind of cheap "Made in Taiwan" media. Verbatim is Taiwanese media, but it's the best of all "Made in Taiwan" discs.

if you have done it correctly before,
there are 2 possibilities:

1. Your lens are too weak to read dvd rw
2. your modchip does not support dvd rw (most likely Duo Chip)

OK, a few things you can try. But get some DVD+R or DVD-R in 8X speed of good quality like mentioned above.

1. Get a hold of Nero 6. You can use the "make a new movie" feature. It will take an AVI, Transcode it, then burn it to DVD as long as the file is small enough to fit. Once transcoded it will be compatible with most stand alone DVD players like PS2. This process takes quite a while so be prepared.

2. Use DivX2DVD and convert it to an ISO. Then if that is small enough burn the ISO to DVD

3. If the ISO is not small enough to fit on a DVD then get DVD Shrink. Take the ISO you made and load it in DVD shrink and choose the back up feature. It will then compress it so it will fit and the output will be standard Video TS folder. Then if you have a good movie making program like CloneDVD2 you can burn the Video TS folder with that.

4. I also beleive a lot of people use WinAVI to convert them but i have not tried that program myself.

AVI file can be sort of trick for some people so it make take a few tries.
