hi!
does anyone know why InterVideo WinDVD Creator do this for widescreen video files when I'm trying to make a movie?

when making the project, you can preview it and it's normal...

but if i start the burning process, it becomes like this.

i thought it'll be ok if it's already burned. but when you watch it, it is like that. any help? thanks!

my guess it's in the settings (screen format). try keeping it to 4:3(which is full screen) instead of 16:9 (wide screen) or keep it set to Automatic. when you have a source that is wide screen already sometimes by adding this aspect ratio will convert it to a more elongated outcome! So by setting it to full screen or automatic it will just do the screen ration as is. It's worth a try. good luck.

I downloaded and installed the trial version. The only thing I see that can be changed is NTSC/PAL output formats. I don't see any place where you can change the aspect ratio. I did a google search and all I found was others asking the same question as you. Perhaps someone with more experience using WinDVD Creator will be able to help. Meanwhile, I'll keep trying to find an answer.

I did a test project and it worked fine for me.

FInally found a solution, I think.

I was having codec problems, downloaded K-Lite codec pack, got the videos loading, and had the aspect ratio problem that I have been having in the past.

Opened K-lite "cofiguration", then "DivX Decoder". I found that under the tab "Quality Settings", if I checked the box "overlay extended mode", I could change the aspect ratio.

Using "16:9" (widescreen), or "Maintain original", the problem persisted. By selecting 4:3, the output does not appear to be squished. 1:1 seemed to squish it the other way.

Hope this helps.

I should point out, I just tried my first burn to DVD, and the 4:3
ratio caused a slight stretch. It gave the effect of a 70's movie
where everyone looks a little skinny. There was also a seeming
reduction in quality.

Try it anyway... I am convinced it is, at its root, a codec problem.

Google "K-Lite Codec", of follow the link below, if it works.

I was having the same problem, and I finally found a workaround. (I'm a complete newbie at this so it's probably not the most elegant solution, but hey.) I used DIKO (free!) to convert my original avi into mpa/mpv files basically following the guide at http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=263309 . DIKO adds physical black bars as needed without stretching the picture to turn it into 4:3, which WinDVD Creator handles just fine. I'm hoping that this will also fix coolcar's "skinny 70s squish" that I ran into with some other clips.

Then all I had to do was import the mpa and mpv files into WinDVD Creator and drag them into the storyboard box. Video and audio were synched beautifully after my burn, and quality was very good. The only drawback to this method is that DIKO is very slow, but it's definitely worth it to get the aspect ratio right.

(DIKO has its own authoring function, but it's very stripped-down and much less user-friendly than WinDVD Creator's. I didn't see a way to add music to menu screens, have pretty buttons, or have image previews for each chapter.)
