I have noticed lately when I go to burn, using either DVD Decrypter or ImageBurn that it will only burn the discs at 2.4x. The burner is 8x and the media, Verbatim, is 16x. Has anyone else run across this problem or know how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

The burner is an NEC 2100 which came installed on a Dell computer runnning XP Pro.

check your firmware for your burner make sure it is up to date go to NEC home page and check or open DVD Decrypter And click on Tools and drive then click on firmware update that will take you to Firmware.com and check for the latest update

There does not appear to be any new firmware updates according to the website. I am pretty sure that it has written at 8x using this batch of media and I know that it has written at 8x using Verbatim media rated 8x previously. Very strange. Appreciate your help though.

There has not been an update for this burner in over a year, I doubt if you will see anymore support as most drive mfr seem to phase out older burners the idea is that you buy a new one. I have a NEC 1300a and have the same problem, although the burner will burn at 4x on the 16x Verbatims, which is its top speed, it it really does not know what brand or code the media is. Check and make sure your DMA is on for the drive.

Does it burn 8x media with any problems?

Thanks for the info. Yes, it does burn 8x media without any problem. Hell, I would prefer to buy 8x media but it is getting a little harder to find these days. Can't burn at 16x and would not do so even if I had a burner that could.

And to answer the other question, DMA is enabled.
