I have some DVDs that are really scratched up and I'm wondering if the burn process suceeds, if the copied DVD will be skipping frames and I won't know until I pop in the DVD. I would try it out for myself, but since DVD-Rs are expensive I don't want to try through trial and error.

Thanks

rip them to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter - usually the will get read errors if they are scrathed to badly, however i have backed up a few with minor scratches on by ripping them with fab decrypter (this is a little more forgiving when ripping scratched discs) but some of the discs did skip a few seconds when playing the back up.

you can take the discs to a blockbuster video store or other rental store & ask them to remove the scratches, some stores have commercial disc scratch removers (they may charge you a small fee to do this).

clone dvd will usually get read errors if too badly scratched, so if it reads them without errors then they should back up ok :-)

If there are smudges from fingerprints, etc... I find that warm water and some Dawn dishwashing liquid can really help. Just be sure to "pat" them dry afterwards.
