This morning, CloneDVD failed, saying 'writing to...media was not successful.

media write error

A write error has ocurred, probably caused by a bad media

Pleas replace the media and try again.'

I've tried 4 discs, can I safely say it's my burner?

If it were me I would bury it, considering new burners are cheap and more up to date. In fact Office Max has a Lite-on on sale for 40.00 it should even booktype/bitset.

Thanks to all, especially arniebear for recommending the writer; Walmart had it for $80, but since we don't have an OfficeMax around, I wasn't complaining. The disc appears to have burned properly, using my Sonys. I have a handful of Memorex though, gonna have a lot of clay pigeons now ;) Thanks again! Kegan

PS- to borhan9: I don't know the brand, not listed, but it's at least 2-3 y/o. Why, do you need a free paperweight LOL?

If you are contemplating a new burner then check online at newegg, they got some of the best prices and they deliver to your door. You can also get that Office Max burner going online also. WalMart is great to shop at for bargains but sometimes you can get it cheaper elsewhere. If you are having no problems with the Sony's then continue on with your burner, just dump the Memorex they are really nasty media. Good luck and happy burning to your :)

Please, I'm begging you to take it! Funny that there's no maker's brand, yeah? Oh well, as I said, it's a good paperweight. Cheers, Kegan

On another subject, anyone know an easy-to-use (preferably free) DVD label making program; I want to scan my DVD labels and put them on my burnt ones. Cheers, Kegan

Putting labels directly on DVD's is really not a good thing it can cause the disk to go off balance and not play well in your player, also can come off if not placed correctly. If you want artwork try a cd printer, lightscribe burner or just plain sharpie. Using labels will only cause you problems down the road.

OK thanks: should I look for anything specific in a printer? Maybe a thermal one?

Hi kzm007
Don't think I'd go the thermal printer route - quite costly :)
Better - get an Epson R200/R300 series. These will print to dvd/cd inkjet printable discs. I've been using one for over 1˝ - they look pretty darn good - almost hard to tell the difference between the original.

Wow, those look so good makes me want to run right out and buy one, unfortunately my Sharpie is stuck to my fingers so I can't get my wallet out ;)

Thanks< and nice pics! I will check the Epson out. I just have a little question that's way off-topic, but I hope the moderators will forgive me; this is wierd!

When I typed the comma after 'thanks' above, it was an arrow instead (look on your keys, the comma and period were doing their secondary commands by themselves). I turned off CAPSLOCK, but they still did it, then they went back to normal. Anyone ever hear of that or know why?

Finally, I'd like to say kudos to AFTERDAWN.COM!- The One Forum That Gives Answers That Actually Work (helluva slogan, yeah?)

You can still pick up the R200 in the south for around $50 bucks most of the time. I've got the R320 too and love it.

How much do the cartridges run, and how many disks do you get to a cartridge?

Frisbees? Nah you buy the good stuff.

You can always send them to me - I still use & buy the silver thermal for other projects!!

The silver inkjet ones - scanner does them no justice - they look pretty cool :)

I just started I think in November of last year with the epson R320 and I'll never go back! LOL ohhhhhh I just checked out my old Memorex DVDs that I recorded in 2003! still going strong, and they are RICOHJPN disks! I am finally putting all my collection in my cases and logging them on DVDProfiler where they are and in what case! I have 3 cases of 600 each to fill! so far! sooooooo I've been checking my old original Memorex DVDs..... I guess I'm lucky with mine.... cause they are RICOHJPNs! which aren't CMC MAG crapolaaaahhhhh!

@kzm007

Thanks, come by the station and I'll give you a ride sometime.

@Arnie & IHOE

According to Saugmon (I think it was the green guy), you can take your empty cartridges to Staples for a $3 per recycling fee and get refills from abacus for $16. That means you get $2 back everytime you need a refill....
