What exactly is this program and what does it do? Is it similar to dvd shrink?

AnyDVD is a Windows-based driver that works automatically in the background to unprotect encrypted movie DVDs.

I think most people use it along with DVD Shrink. AnyDVD removes copy protection while using shrink to reauthor.

You can try a free trial of AnyDVD for 21 days, it is fully functional. AnyDVD also contains a ripper in the program and will rip to your HDD and you can use any other program you want to compress and burn.

http://www.slysoft.com

You can also try the companion sw which is CloneDVD. This program will compress your DVD, allow you to reauthor or split and will also burn. Same 21 day free trial from slysoft. Otherwise as stated run it behind Shrink and it will break the encryption on newer movies which cannot be done with Shrink anymore.

try it and then buy it. excellent program especially if you're not an expert. I have used it for about 2 years and I love it. Constantly being updated. I also use shrink and clone, sometimes at the same time if i am burning two discs simultaneously. Was leery about internet purchase, but have no regrets whatsoever.

Yup a great Program to use. My trial version went out tho. I don't have internet access at home so I'm reluctant to purchase it. Unless I can download the updates on my flash card. Anybody know this?

No internet due to no phone lines, I've been looking at satellite internet tho. One draw back to living in rural areas but way more benifits : )

@djohlson............
I don't think so. If you have one of the new iMacs, with the Intel processor, you can run Windows on it, and use this Windows only software.

I haven't figured out how to get AnyDVD to rip to the Hard drive. I took the program off the computer, should I try it again?

I usually use DVD Decrypter, but lately with movies like the new Underworld, Decrypter won't rip to those kind of DVDs to the hard drive.

Will AnyDVD solve this problem, or do I need to use something others have called VOBlanker. I know nothing about that program. I'm just looking to make backups to keep my originals in pristine condition.

I can also burn DL, I don't need to use Shrink if that makes things less complicated.

Any advice?

To rip to the HD with AnyDVD, you right click on the red fox, in your system tray (bottom right corner), then click on "Rip Video - DVD to Harddisk". Then set your source and destination fields, and click on "Copy DVD" button.

Decrypter is what I use for burning DL discs. But, to put a movie on a regular single layer disc, I'll use either Shrink or CloneDVD.
Of course, AnyDVD is always running in the background.

I just finished doing Underworld Evolution.
I put everything, except the French sound track, on a single layer disc.
I used Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background. Nero burned it. It was no problem at all. :o)

I'm using AnyDVD and also am having problems with ripping to HD. I'm trying to rip using my DVDROM instead of my burner so I can burn with shrink on my burner and at the same time rip with AnyDVD from my DVDROM. But for some reason I think you have to use the same drive as the burner which sucks. Anyone know if this is true?

No you don't have to use the same drive, unless you have a problem with your dvd rom drive. I use my rom drive to read and rip, and my burner to burn.

Just in case you don't realize..........Shrink doesn't burn. It uses whatever burning software you have, such as Nero, to do the burning. It just automatically opens and starts it for you, when it finishes encoding, so it looks like Shrink does the burning.
