I'm backing up using DVD shrink and/or AnyDvd Ripper, and lately I'm running into instances where my backup's won't play when burnt to disc, but they'll play off my HDD using winDvd or Dvd Shrink. Anyone Have suggestions. Check my sig. to see what I'm running.
thanks

the question is when you use DVD Shrink or AnyDVD and burn a backup disc are you trying to play it on a dvd player?
if it is may be that your dvd player doesn't read backup or it may be the media your using that are bad

ehharley1 I would say one is the brand of media you are using as some are a no no. Try a good brand such as Verbatim or taiyo. I
have used Sony or Maxell when I cannot get the others. best Buy
has some good sales on verbatim, so watch the sunday ads.

ok. update.
I've put the files on a DVD-RW, and they won't play in a stand alone DVD player.
I put the files on a DVD+RW, and they will play.
But my DVD Player works with both formats of media. Just sometimes it won't play the DVD-RW's as I've just come to find out. IS there a reason for this?
thanks theend

ehharley1,
DVD Players are really fickle and most of us have found out-" The more expensive player will not play ever blank they are supposed to but the cheap players will play the kitchen sink". I have a Sony DVD Player that really is fickle( only likes Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and Maxell) but we have an Apex in the office at the house and it plays anything. I would just suggest you use (+) DVD's and just give up on the (-) ones as the blank media you are using is good blank media

I also remember reading somewhere that RWs aren't the best to use for DVD backups.
But like everyone else said, some players are just really picky. If your stand alone player supports the + format, go with it and book type it to Rom. That shouldn't definitely help.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie
