Would anybody know the MID of
Maxell DVD+R 1-8X made in Taiwan
I usually buy the ones from Japan they are Maxell 002
which is supposedly good stuff.
There is a sale on Maxell media at Office depot 60% off all maxell media
but they are all out of the made in japan ones.

Ritek-R03
Very good stuff! If you can pick these up for 20-25 cents each-it's a great price.I rate Ritek-R03 up there with my ty/verbatim/and maxell hitachi's.
30 cents each: I'd give that price for maxell-002-00,not Ritek-R03
Office Depot 8x media is made by ritek. These were on sale last week for 20 cents each. Some stores had the 8x,others only had 16x.That's why I don't pay 30 cents each for maxell ritek-R03 when I could get the Office Depot Ritek-R03 for 1/3 the cost-exact same media.
Now if they were dash 8x: Not!

How about DVD-R 1-8x Made in taiwan.
Would those be riteks too.
Yeah I have a bunch of those Office depot ones
Mine are RitekF1.
For some odd reason though they dont seem to perform as good as the RitekG05. I know I sound crazy for saying that because its probably the same thing. Has anyone here had any problems with the RitekF1's ? I hope Office deopt didnt stop making the RitekG05 now That is really good media maybe just a step down from Taiyo Yuden, MCC and Maxells I think its probably on par with Sonys.

Maxell dash 8x-gold tops:
Made in japan: These are hitachi-Mxl-rg-03
Made in taiwan: Ritek-G05
Made in taiwan: Cmags-not sure of exact mid code, but lots of reports on them.
That's why I use caution with maxell dash media. Slim chance of getting cmags. The plus 8x rated speed maxells are very good.
Not sure of maxell 16x media. They'll likely follow suit with using hitachi, ritek, ricoh, and later on-dreaded cmags.
Same applied to the maxell dash 4x yellowtops: Ty-g01/Mxl-rg02/ritek-g04/and a few cmags.

Just went to my local Office Depot today and saw that they have these 100 pack Maxell 8x DVD+R MIJ on sale for $28. I was very tempted and wanted to pick up some but then hesitated. Does anyone know if these Maxell uses the same AZO dye as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden?

btitus: Were those 100 pks of MIJ maxell in the 8x or 16x speed?
Techblue: I don't believe the hitachi maxell uses advanced metal azo dye. I'm not sure what they use,but they are top quality stuff. That's an excellent price for 28 cents each-in fact, the cheapest price I have ever heard of with maxell-002-00 media. Hell of a buy!

I'm an inkjet printable man myself. I get my white inkjet printable TY for about 33 cents each from SMS.com. I usually get 200 to 300 at a time. However, if a friend or family has some backups that they want me to do for them, I always recommend they get Maxell DVD+R white inkjet printables made in Japan from B&M...

@saugmon
O.K. That's just the encouragement that I needed! I'm going back later on to pick up two 100 pack of these. Also, do you think these Maxell will last just as long as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden since they don't use metal azo dye?

I don't know if they'll last longer or shorter than AZO dye. There's a lot of factors:
Keep the errors to a minimum
Quality burner
storage
When it comes to longevity, there's no guarantee of which brand of media will last longest. It was first estimated to last over 100 yrs,and steadily keeps dropping. Nobody's sure exactly how long they'll last.
For now: I'll put any of may maxell hitachi/ritek-r03 against any of my taiyo yuden and verbatim media.Which ones will last longer? Hopefully 4-5 yrs,i will find out?

btitus ! anytime my friend ! Don't worry about quantity as much as Quality Buy a little at the time & they will add up beleive me! Well made my trip to The Big Bad city ! Good news & bad ! Bad news went to 2 OFFICEDEPOTS and neither had the MIJ 8x 100pks ! The dumpsters held only trash ! @ blockbuster ! Good news is I also hit BestBUY and went on a looKsee for 8X DVD+R Sony /Taiyo Yudens ! Bestbuy is sneaky everytime they put media onsale They either hide it on an obscure and out of the way endcap or worse they put it on the bottom shelf then shove it to the back of the shelf ! @ over 6ft + I'm politely what you would call a large dimension so I have to get down to the floor & or kneel which isn't difficult but getting back up that's another matter LOL! (REALLY !!!) Well all the100 pk spindles of sony were (TAIWAN- GRey round spacer) So as they say in Texas -El Paso on those ! But I did happen to find a small outcropping of VERBATIM 16X DVD+R's In one of those obscure endcaps /Cubbyholes for $14.99 per 50ct. spindle I figure go for it ! & pick up 2 spindles Go to the register and then the cashier try's to charge $29.99 ea. I explain to her that they were onsale marked @ $14.99 per. So we go to the display & she rips the price label off the display and then we go back to the register & transact the sale @ the sale price ! She had to do a price overide & I had to give a blood sample , Fill out forms & give Bestbuy dibs on my first born male child LOL! well I'm exagerating about the KId and the Blood sample ! but not the paper work ! And the Cashier was none to happy belive you me! But I did get the Verbatims at the price I was willing to pay so all in all a good trip I'd say Verbatims for the price of maxells well .04 cents more but that's splitting hairs ! Good luck and Happy Shopping btitus ! I guess Saugmon got there first LOL!

The nearest Best Buy is about an hour away from me so I was truly happy to see that Office Depot had this great sale. They had not really had any good sales lately but thankfully I had stocked up during previous sales. When there are good sales I really have to fight myself to keep from just buying up everything. Sometimes I'm actually relieved when I go back for more and they are gone!!! Right now I have about 250 of the Maxells so that should hold me for two or three months.

The Wolf/Ritz camera shops have occasional sales on quality media here in the Raleigh area (MIJ Fuji mostly). Being that they are usually found in malls makes them pretty convenient as well. They don't have much in the way of quality inkjet printable media, though. But, not many B&M shops do...

btitus- I hear you ! The nearest Bestbuy is about 30 minutes from Where I live ! And I'm so far out in the Sticks we get sunlight for monday on thursday LOL! Seems like dvd Media sales run in cycles ! Either all the major retailers have Crap on sale Memorex , OffBrands or anything made BY CMC ! Or they all have something Good to excellent media wise ! Verbatims , Sony/Taiyo's Maxell's /Ritek - Maxells Mij's ( if you can find them!) I understand about the restraining yourself from buying up the shelf too ! I was at OFFICEDEPOT yesterday 2 of them actually. And I saw that 1 of them had verbatim CDR's 50ct. Spindles on closeout for $4.00 ea. which is like .08 cents ea. before taxes ! I almost bought them UP!but although I'm still fairly new to DVD burning , I've been Burning CDR's -CD's for quite awhile and managed to amass quite a good bit of blanks ! Sales ect ! and since getting more into the DVD arena I have'nt stopped burning CDR's but I have slowed down quite a bit !So my supply of them is still flush. Guess I'll Sit this sundays sale out , well maybe not? Being I got those 16xDVD+R verbatims yesterday! Depends on the deal & the Prices I guess ? anyways btitus & everyone ! Good luck, Happy Burning & happy shopping...

not quite sure where to post, but this is a Maxell thread so...
When stocking up on the 8x DVD+R sale last week, I noticed that the packaging has a P/N # (usually near the UPC) and the last digits end in letters which seem to indicate who manufactures the disc/ink dye. For example, the MIJ ones had MDM at the end which indicates that it's a Maxell formulation. The MIT 8x/16x ones had RT, which should be Ritek.
I also checked the -R (16x available only), they have MDM; I think (though not certain) that I even saw CMC on one of the -R packages.
While this is not conclusive, it could indicate something before having to buy and find out the code. Has anyone else noticed this and can confirm?
