I had a couple of NES game sleeves lying around so I figured I'd give it a try and damn it works great! Diaganols are a breeze to do now and the D-pad just feels so much more solid. Warning you do have to open up the PSP to do it.

Yes!!! It's so worth it especially for games likes MK and Street Fighter. And thanks. I was shocked how good as it is. It feels like a tight D-pad from a brand new dual shock controller. It's not too stiff, but just still enough. Street Fighter is my game, so I'm happy to now be able to throw fireballs and dragon punches with ease.

BTW I didn't trace out a stencil like the guy did. I just cut it with scissors and eyeballed it. Now I had to use an exacto knife it cut the hole in the middle, but it was but like a square. Also I just used Emler's glue.

Ebay, pawnshops, Goodwill, thrift stores maybe. Do you have any other game stores in your area? I have a few other than Gamestop/EBgames and they sell everything from Atari on up.

LOL, there is a Goodwill around my area, that would be funny as hell if they had a few sleaves. Ur lucky, no ma and pa game shops around my area, just EB and Gamestop:(

Can the average person do this install?

The hardest part for me was cutting the sleeve to the proper size. Still I pulled it off. I think the average person can do it. Just make sure you keep your LCD screen dust free and don't loose the screws.

Also it is cool I have those other stores in my areas. I snagged an empty box for my Black Sports Edition Dreamcast for $5 at one of them a few weeks ago which was very cool. I like having boxes for all my consoles and that was the one box I was missing beside a Virutal Boy box. Goodwill in my area usually always has a few NES games with sleeves on them.

LOL, I'm like 1 out of 100 people who really the Virtual Boy. Ebay is a last ditch effort, but hopefully if you do ebay you can find a seller who ships fast.

My main advice is try to LCD screen lint free. I put it face down on a styrofoam plate when I was working on it. A compressed air can and lint free screen cloth would be good as well to have handy. I keep the screws on the same plate and it's good IMO if you have a magnetic screw driver, but it's not a requirement. I'm in the middle of doing my wife's PSP now. I'm waiting about 10 mins for the glue to dry. I took a few pics for someone else this time. Maybe I can post them.

Just treat every thing deliecately especially when you put it all back together. Cut the cross so it's all even. I had to cut my cross down some more and don't use too much glue. I put a tad too much there but I wiped it off. Cutting the hole/square in the middle is a bit easier to do on a magazine or piece of cardboard.

Memnock, u the man LOL!!! Sorry for taking so long, but ya i got it working!!!!! The first time i put it back together, the right button on the d-pad was sticking, still not sure why. Took off the case and wiggled the d-pad around a bit, and it seemed like it was working fine. So, booted up MK2, what a difference!!!! I can actually jump in a diagonal instead of only str8 up LOL!!! I can really c a difference in all games, especailly by fav DBZ Shin Budokai.

Thx for starting this thread up, and taking the time to post pics, big help. Ive been hating my psp for a while cause it was too hard to play. I can actually enjoy games now LOL!!! Thx again Memnock:)

PS - In my opinion this should be sickied, this can make the psp a lot more enjoyable for a lot of ppl;)

Thanks a lot. It'd be cool to have my sticky. Don't worry about the late response. I know it fell to next page, but I'm glad you got it going. Yeah it's awesome for all fighting games! NES Contra works a lot better too. I used that to test it up to make sure all 8 directions were working properly. I probably could've posted in the beginning. Oh well.

Cool. So many ROMs are so much more fun with a properly working D-Pad. Sony should have been it right in the 1st place.

No it's not mine. I saw it months ago, but after I got totally fed up with the d-pad I finally gave it a shot. It's cool regardless. Maybe a few people at least read this and made use of it.

Actually if anyone cares I was just doing some hard reading on this, and if you google psp dpad mod, theres a link to a gfaqs and gamespot, same thread, read it. Its about 16 pages but in the end, they find out you can simply use masking/artist tape.
Criss cross layer over it about 5 times, some people say 6 is better.
Then use a hole puncher and pop 4 out and just stick em on the pad.
Im gonna borrow my friends psp tomorrow, im sure he wont mind.
