OK,im new to this so need some help, im computer literate but new to the DVD backing up game. Ive just bought myself a new computer with a Lite-On DVDRW SHM-165-P6S. Im backing up my copy of Fawlty Towers series 1. I dont know what the original disc is coz its doesnt say on it, i only know its a DVD+R, only a white printable surface. The discs i am using to copy are Datawrite Titanium 8x DVD-R. I presumed that considering this was already a copy i wouldnt have to do anything to it, only copy it from nero. I selected Copy DVD from nero and write at 8x. Now the copy seemed successful with no errors, but when i tried to play the disc in my DVD playrer it didnt play correctly, and on the other DVD player downstairs it didnt play at all. Now im learning here, so thats why im asking you guys, Might be a simple problem but we've all gotta start somewhere.
cheers

Morning and welcome to AD! Sounds like it might be a media problem. Always use quality media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. You could also slow your burn speed down to 4X and try booktyping the DVD+R to dvd-rom using a program such as booktype135 which will greatly improve compatability between your burns and your dvd players. Also visit Liteons home page and check to be sure that your firmware is up to date.

I cannot stress enough the importance of using quality media! Just check the media thread here at AD to see lot's of media-related horror stories! I wish someone would have told me about this site when I first got started, would have saved me ALOT of woes.

Also if you are using the newest version of Nero, your problem could lie there, I hear it's pretty buggy. Try some freeware such as DVD Decrypter or imgburn, widely available for downloading with just a little googling. I would try slowing my burn speed to half the media's rated speed first though, and go from there. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

If you burner is the one below then there is firmware for it at the site below. The firmware is up to MSON. Check yours to see if it is that version

I also agree it is probably the blank media you are using
