I need help! I'm trying to get all my music off my harddrive. I have not modded anything i really dont plan on it either. I just want to get the music off the factory setup. I know there is probably a tutorial on how to take my drive out and hook it up to my pc. I tried a quick google search and found nothing. But if some one could point me in the right directon that would be great!
And i tried to search the forum for previous threads but the search is down!

srry buddy but there isnt a way, you would have to ftp, and for that you need a modded xbox.

Thanx for the reply at least! but I just now finished extracting 4 gigs of music off my non-modded
xbox and i reassembled and it works just like new and it still has 4
gigs of music on it too! All i did was read the thread on how to hotswap http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/332766
I already had my xbox apart when i created this thread. I just needed to know what else i needed when i hooked the drive to my computer and how to unlock it! And the hotswap thread explained it to me perfectly and had a link for xplorer 360 (program that reads factory xbox hd). After i had unlocked it just like the thread instructed i just searched for a couple of min and found the music files (wma files). And the xplorer360 has a nifty little feat (when you right click) called export. So in all its like i never even opened my xbox minus breaking the stickers placed on top of the screws!!!

See i'm actually kinda pissed i dont remeber what file they were under! i do remember that it was one above udata(i think)Were all the game save's were kept! And i'm almost sure it was under the third partition. but dont hold me to it. And i already put everthing back together. and there's no way m pulling it back out. it took too much time trying to get my piece of s$*# computer to read the xbox hd.
But the process of getting it off the drive is simple and quick. it just sucks that all the files are numbers instead of what i named them. Now i have to rename a close to a 500 song's!!!

You would have saved yourself a lot of time and effort had you just softmodded your Xbox. It does not require that you open your Xbox. And as far as your music, you could have accessed the music folder on your PC and loaded all those songs into your WM player library thereby getting all the titles back instead of numbers. Once you got your music off, it would have taken no time to restore your Xbox back to retail specs, but hey you got it done so you achieved your results congrats....

That would have been handy info before i opened my xbox! But Your saying after i softmod it i can transfer file back and fourth from my pc? Where do i begin with softmod? (nevermind i just found the forum
and it says i would have needed action replay and one of the linux games! which im my case would have been a dead end cuz i have none of those items. Nor would i have been interested in buying them just to get music off my xbox!)

You don't need an Action Reply to do a softmod just a memory card, a Golden Eye, Splinter Cell or Mech Assault game and the game exploits which come from AID v3.0 disc. So you are looking at maybe $10 for a used memory card and $6 for one of those game titles that equals the cost of one music CD. And of course the AID v3.0 disc is free because you download it from the Internet.

You are correct thekingo7, he could use it to softmod his Xbox, though I would be unsure of the exact method because I have never done a hotswap.
