Alright guys, I am getting lost in all of this stuff. I have read countless posts and websites today, and I need some clarification. I plead ignorance, so read my post with that in mind.

My understanding is that the AR software can be used with any flashdrive stick to transfer files to and from the PS2 and PC. Is that right? So you could get an older AR copy, one without the pricey MAX drive (just their own version of a flashdrive stick), and use your own USB stick, right? Does that really work? What version of AR do I need to get to use my own USB stick? And what kind of formatting does my flashdrive need for this?

And now for what I really don't understand. Why is there not some simple program for transferring files to and from PS2/PC with your own USB drive? Or is there? I figured someone out there would have written something like this. I don't need the AR for ANYTHING except file transfer, I don't have any need for cheat codes. If there is a straight file transfer program, I would rather go with this, since the AR takes forever and inundates you with cheat code crap the whole time.

Can anyone give me a comprehensive explanation? I bet the whole forum would like to know how this whole thing works.
Thanks, Wooly

Well, I have been able to get mine to work pretty easily with only one out of two of my flash memory sticks. The one that does work is a Memorex 128mb flash memeory stick, and it worked out-of-box, no need for the HP formating tool that is mentioned in another thread (not sure if you've seen the thread I'm talking about).

I have ARMax Evo, well I should say I "aquired" it to test it out for people and I ended up using it anyways lol. So I have the disc and no ARMax flash memory stick, but I have my own flash memory stick of course. Thing is, I think you can use a memory stick with the non-Evo version, the Evo version just includes the ARMax memory stick and software to watch videos and listen to music on your PS2, but that is it. I'll edit this post in a bit with the process of how to do it so everything is correct.

Hello,

I'm having a different problem than those posted in the thread. In my case, I'm using a 1GB PNY Flash drive and AR seems to be able to see its contents just fine. The problem starts whenever I try to copy, write, uncrush, backup.

Whenever I try to perform an operation I see the memory card icon on the right but am unable to select it. I've tried all sorts of stuff including checking only 1 item at a time and all at once, etc but no go.

I'm pretty lost right now so I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

to stop max drive from corrupting your memory card, take out your memory card. Load Action Replay Max. When you get to the main menu then insert your memory card and move your files to your pen drive or vice versa. Once that is done remove your memory card and reset the system.

Unfortunately if your memory card is already corrupted you probably need to toss it out. The method I use to check if my memory cards are dead is to play any game and try to save. If it says "unable to save" your memory card is screwed. Hope that helps some people. I learned this from my own experience btw.

Actually there is a homebrew app that formats memory cards even if they are corrupted, I've had to use it once before when ARMax had corrupted my MC.

after some testing I reformatted my corrupted memory cards by pressing 'square' using action replay max after selecting the memory card. Guess you don't have to toss your corrupted memory cards afterall.

There is no difference between action replay max and action replay max evo except one comes with a flash drive and the other does not.
you do not need the action replay indorsed one. it will read some flash drives but not others like mine doesnt register my flash drive but picks up my flash drive mp3 player.
you dont need to reformat your memory card to delete a currupted save you can do that in the ps2 menu. when you crush or uncrush game save ect sometimes you will see theres currupted data there but its nothing it there for action replay max's sake. simply restart action replay or remove the memory card the reinsert and it disapears.
as for crushing and uncraesing currupting my actual saves it has never happened to me or anyone else i nop that has it (which is 2 other people)
hope i have been of some help if you need anything else just repley.

Oh ok, gotcha.

Hey I've the same situation as you, except my camera worked instead of my USB flash stick lol. I haven't tried out my Sansa MP3 player yet, but I bet I could play a game from there with USB Extreme lol.

hey what's up! I've been a user of both AR Max Evo/AR Max & Codebreaker for a little over a year. Great software. With just two (overpriced to Hell...) memory cards by $ony, I've saved thousands of hours of savefiles to them. Every 2-3 days I pop in a Lexar JumpDrive 512MB JDE512 & save all the games again, add a .txt file, zip it & upload it to me email. {insert extreme nerd facial expression}
There's a thread over at the Playstation board (a few of them) about the Codebreaker:

and the official Codebreaker forums:

I am new to all of this but I had the same problem. I found a solution by partitioning my 512 drive to a smaller size. I partitioned the drive down to 16mb as the first partition and the rest on the second. I made sure that I used ms dos formatting on my mac. That's all. Now it works.

Thanx.
gothrog, you can use ANY size, brand, and style (I'm useing my mp3 usb drive) as long as 1. it's plug and play and 2. you follow these semisimple steps to format your flash drive so that your ps2 will see it.
(if your running xp you will need to pm me in yahoo, jpverv is my nick)
1 insert drive onto comp.
2 click on start/settings/controlpanel
3 go to administrative tools
4 double click on computer management
5 click on storage/disk managment(local)
6 find your flash drive (BE ABSOLUTLY CERTAIN THAT ITS YOU FLASH DRIVE)
7 right click on the area that says your flash drives name AND has a blue stripe above it
8 delete partition ((it will tell you that you'll lose all of your data stored on the drive)(hense why i said to make absolutly certain that the drive you're clicking on is infact your usb flash drive)
9 right click on the now unallocated space where your drive was before
10 create new partition: in the popup it will give you some options; volume label, file system, allocation unit size, perform a quick format
11 volume label doesn't matter, file system has to be fat, allocation unit size has to be 16k, and you choose weather to quick format or not (I did just so you know)
12 after it's done just plug it into your ps2 usb port and away you go!!!!

you need to reformat your drive first, use the format that i've posted just before this one :)
