Is there a way to check the real or fake/clone matrix infinity mod chip i have in my PS2 V12 without opening it?

i doubt there is, since the clone chips run off of an older version of the Matrix Infinity firmware it will act like a Matrix Infinity chip.
If you try to update the firmware on a clone chip it will either not take it, or from what i have heard just plain fry the chip.

yes, since that firmware is about 10 months old now (7-26-05) and there have been about 4-5 released since that time that are newer.
they are up to V1.88 now
