having a problem with window media player at the moment. whenever i play a clip through wmp the player loads the clip but just freezes at the start point , when i try to close it down it comes up "not responding". doesnt matter which format its in (mpg, avi, divx) its doing it with everything i try but the same clips are running fine with both realplayer & vlc player so the problem only seems to be with wmp any ideas?
btw sorry if this is in the wrong forum im a newbie round here

Uninstall WMP by opening controll panell and check "Show updates", then navigate down WMP and remove it.
You may be asked if you want to downgrade, choose no and remove it completly.
Re download and install WMP from here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Players/Windo...
See if it freeze's then.
EDIT: You CANNOT fully remove WMP, you can only downgrade.

Hey strider99, I have'nt left you high and dry my friend, just was busy thats all.
You've rolled back to ten, good, I'm more familiar with ten :)
I need you to check if it happend's in all players, like in wimAMP or VLC, etc, etc.
What type of file is the clip??? for example DivX,.AVI etc, does it happen with all type's of clips??
You can also check out the troubleshooting guide:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/troubleshootin...
See you soon.

You wouldn't happen to be running Media Center Edition of WinXp are you? I had the same problem after about 2 weeks of a fresh install.
Fixed it by re-installing XP and making sure I didnt load it with the same type drivers and programs that are already built into the system. If its not MCE, ignore my rant.

Seeing as its just thoose files WMP won't play then that tell's us you need a codec, I probally didnt post you the right ones or you didnt install them right, bottom line is, this is not a problem with your WMP as long as programs like VLC media player (which has the codec's built in) can play then it should'nt bother you, right?
If you really, really must be able to play then solely in WMP I suppose I could hunt got the right codec strider99.
