Hello: I have a region two dvd that I burned as a region 1. However, there is no audio on the disc. There was only one audio stream listed in CloneDVD and it was checked. Any help is appreciated. Kegan

What audio stream format was it? If it was mp2, you're probably out of luck in that NTSC players (region 1) don't usually handle it. If it was AC3 format, then something else is wrong.

Audio was "English Dolby AC-3/2...

And is MP2 the same as MPEG2, or is MPEG2 just for video, because I have burned other region 2s that played fine. Kegan

There's both an MPEG2 audio and video standard. mp2, PCM, and AC3 are required formats in PAL-Region 2. AC3 and PCM are the required formats in NTSC-Region 1. In other words, players in those regions are required to support those formats. Support for other audio formats is optional.

If you press the audio button the dvd player remote control does it indicate the soundtrack is present. Does AC3 English 3.2 show up on the screen at all?

If you have DVD Shrink, open the disk in that program. Is the AC3 audio stream present? Does it have a check mark? If so, right click on the player and select the audio track and then play the title. Is there sound?

Hello: The DVD plays fine on my player, but I'm still a little confused. If AnyDVD is supposed to erase the region, why won't the film play with sound on my PS2 or PC? Kegan

The disk is likely region-free if you processed it through AnyDVD before reburning. If it's a R2 disk though, It's likely in the PAL video format instead of the NTSC format. Did you do any PAL to NTSC conversion before reburning?

Does the DVD play video OK on the player, the PC and the PS2?

The sound plays OK on the player but not on the PS2 or PC. Is this correct?

Does your DVD player play both PAL and NTSC video? Quite a few do. Check the owner's manual.

I don't recall. I did change the DVD region in AnyDVD. How do you convert formats?

Video plays fine on all three

That is correct, sir

Can't find the manual at the moments, going to say YES though, because the player is region-free (if it plays all regions, it must play all formats, yes?)

Thanks, Kegan

If your DVD player is region free, it likely plays both PAL and NTSC.

If you load the disk into VOB Blanker I think it will tell you if the disk is PAL or NTSC and will convert it if needed.

http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Here's a thread here on afterdawn where it's discussed.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/167922

I'm at a loss though since the video plays as to why the audio doesn't.

I don't do PAL to NTSC conversions so I probably won't be much help.

About your question about not having audio I remember I once accidentally chose the DTS Surround Sound instead of AC3. So if you chose a surround sound audio stream then thats most likely the problem. If you need to convert the video files to NTSC or PAL I believe the program called "The Film Machine" can do this.

The only audio stream is the one listed above. PowerDVD play the region 2 original copy fine. The burnt DVD is still in PAL format according to AnyDVD (newest version). How do I convert to NTSC using The Film Machine? Thanks, Kegan

PS!- The file I want to convert is NOT in Avi format! It is from a Region-free DVD in PAL format. If that won't work, I have the original Region 2 PAL DVD.

I'm in Nero Express, as that's all they had. There is no option to create a DVD. The only optios for video are VCDs or SVCDs. What do you propose I do? Thanks, Kegan

PS- What I am trying at the moment is:
1. In Nero StartSmart, I make my own DVD
2. I go into my folder and select all the VOB files for my desired DVD
3. I let Nero burn all the files as one movie

Do you think this will work?

or try VOBBlanker. I linked it in a prior post in the thread.

Hello: I downloaded the Nero Suite from the installation CD, and as I said, NeroVision wasn't present. My film runs 8.72 gb, after converted to NTSC. Any idea how I can compress it, or do I need to buy a disc with more space? Thanks, Kegan

I think you have the "lite" version of Nero and not the full program suite. That's why I sent you to the Nero site for the full package. The manufacturers only include a limited version of Nero with their drives.

You need to use DVD Shrink to compress to fit on a DVD5 or a DVD9. Link in my signature.

Usually when you install it asks for the key.

@laddyboy
it looks like I won't even need NeroVision. What I did, as I said before, was save the reg. 2 DVD to my C:/ drive. Then, I went into Nero StartSmart and clicked to create my own DVD. Nero put the files together, realized I had PAL, and prompted me to convert (which I did). It is now in the process of reburning the files to 'C' in NTSC format. I think if I take those files and Shrink them, it will go smoothly.

What do you think?

Sounds good to me, kzm007. Startsmart is just a Nero wizard. It's using the Nerovision engine to do the conversion. I hope this solves the problem.

It hasn't yet, but who knows why LOL. Thanks for the help guys, I posted to the Nero board as well. I'm thinking I'm screwing up a small but crucial detail, I'll see what they say and get back to you on it. Thanks again, Kegan
