Has anyone had luck backing up "When A Stranger Calls" with DVD Shrink?

I've had no luck at all with this movie,as well as a few others movies lately when using DVD Shrink.Has anyone been able to back this up with DVD Shrink and will there be an update of Shrink any time soon?

DVD Shrink is dead. There will be no more updates. Some of the newer movies just don't work with Shrink any more due to new protections, but there are plenty of other tools that can do the job of removing the protections before shrinking.

dvd shrink is no longer being updated so there for it can not handle the newer dvd's lie when a stranger calls. so with that being said it needs alittle help.use a progarm called anydvd that runs in the background while using dvdshrink to help you rip the movie.

I still prefer staying with DVD Decrypter cause it's free and copies most movies to this day. Ones that use ARccOS I still use Decrypter but with the PGCedit ARccOS plugin to help. So far no disc I've tried has been able to defeat this free and easy combo.

A good, totally free program to try is shrinkto5, it's the response to the demise of DVD shrink. The program comes in two versions, basic (free) and pro ($$), the basic version is really all you need.
Get it here;

In order to be able to decrypt copy protected DVDs, you'll need the decrypter that works with it (machinist2.dll), it works much like slysoft's anydvd but it's free.
You can get it here;

Install shrinkto5 then the machinist2.dll and reboot. Run shrinkto5 and open the DVD like you would with DVDshrink, rip to the hard drive, once done you'll have a VIDEO_TS folder that you can burn to DVD using your favorite application. That's all there is to it, and it's free.

Frequent upgrades\updates are not really required.
They just updated shrinkto5 after quite a while, made it much, much better than the previous version with alot of new features. The decrypter required to rip copy protected DVDs requires no updating at all, it's adaptive, which means it analyzes the DVD's video file structure and self adjusts to decrypt new copy protection techniques, which are really nothing more than a manipulation of the DVD's video file structure to try and confuse decrypters.

Just curious, what do you use(First choice) programs wise, for backing up a movie that requires shrinking to fit 4.7GB DVD? I usually always use AnyDVD and Nero Recode and if Nero balks, Shrink.

My two apps of choice are anydvd and clonedvd2, but I do like to experiment with other software to see how they compare. Shrinkto5 has proven to be a very good free alternative and well worth a try. If you're trying to keep it free, then I would go with shrinkto5 basic, its a ripper/decrypter (with the use of the machinist2.dll file)/and a transcoder all in one solution.
Its just another tool to use if all other available free tools fail you, if I didn't have anydvd and clonedvd2, this application would be all I'd ever use (excluding a burning app).

yes as a matter of fact i did that movie last week. i used dvd fabdecrypter first then ran the file thru shrink followed by burning with Nero 6. works like store bought

Sucessful Backups:NASCAR 06, The Suffering, NBA Live 06, Medal of Honor: European Assault, Atv Offroad Fury 3, MX Unleashed, Evergrace, Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars Battlefront, SNES Station with about 50 games

I tried doing the movie with Any DVD and had no luck. I inserted disk and let Any DVD do its thing, then opened Shrinks as normal. Get an error message right away. Will try again to and record message.
Learning more but still leaning on a Newbie status! :)

i burned Underworld Evolutions and Stranger Calls with clonedvd 2.8.9.9 and anydvd 6.0.1.1,last night..4x disk and on a windows 2000 sp-4 computer that never goes to the net..

Help! I tried to burn When a stranger calls with AnyDVD and Shrink but I got a data error message. I was going to try DVDFAb with VOB blanker, but I ran out of hard drive space? Can anyone help me? Thanks!

If you don't have enough HDD space to install a simple program you don't have enough to encode and burn DVDs. How much HDD space do you have left? You need about 10-15GB of free space.

No I have enough space to install the programs,but when I was using VOB it said I was running out of disk space (while copying a movie).
