1. Does the PS2 support 5.1 Surround Sound in DVD movies?
2. Will a PS2 purchased in one region play DVDs from another?
3. If not, what is the best way (modchip/swap trick or disk) to ensure that I get to play ps1, ps2 backups as well as DVD movies of different regions in the new slimline version?
4. What will be the cost of installing such a modchip and which is the best value for money modchip?
5. What is the lowest one can get a modded ps2 for? Anyone knows the singapore rates please put it here since I plan to buy there.
I hope I haven't asked too many questions. Thanks in advance for those who answer me. :)
1) I think the optical output can do that... not 100% sure though
2) Not straight out of the box no
3) Modchip (Matrix Infinity, DMS4 Pro)
4) Do a search - depends on where you want to get it from
5) Same as 4
If I have no option but to go for a modchip and I can't spend too much on the modchip can you suggest the best "value for money" modchip. The modchip should play DVD movies from any region.
Well most modchips can do that, have a look here: http://www.teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2, there's information on the different kind of chips. Something like Matrix Infinity SE (clone chip) that's $30 can play all region DVDs. Having said that, Matrix Infinity Green Dot (the real version) is only $20 more, but the choice is yours. Have a look around in the link and compare prices/functions :)
If i have to install the laser fix myself can I do it? I don't know much about soldering.
Also I have learnt a lot by reading through the forums and I can gather that the ModBo is a clone of Matrix and @ $19 is really cheap as long as I don't upgrade it right? What are the drawbacks if I don't flash the firmware. I can play most of ps2, ps1 and DVD movies without doing any upgrading right? I don't need any fancy features just play the games that's all.
Since I'm from India every dollar is like 50 bucks for me. That's why I'm a bit cautious about spending more than is requried.
