As a 1.5 owner, and after Devhook 0.41a. I'm struggling hard to find a reason to want one. At first, there will not be any custom firmwares. The rumored custom firmware to be released with the UP seem to have some holes in the description. Enough holes to cause some serious speculation as to the validity of the custom firmware.
And no one has yet to prove beyond a shawdow of a doubt this thing really exsists! Though it does look good.
I'm going to wait till the bugs are ironed out and theres some firmwares.
If you have a 1.5, why would you want this? And for the poor people,(like me) I bet a dollar there will be some major firmware breakthroughs that will make the mod chip owners sad for wasting money.
The devs will be free to experiment with their firmwares. Any experiment that fails now results in a brick. Now you don't have to worry about bricking if your experiment goes bad.
Don't forget the chip in your PSP is already flashable! ho HO!!

mite order one for me little bro but im a 1.5 man so i might wait for you guys to test and post ya feedbacks and it probably will come down in price by the time i need one for the new games
oh and am i right in saying that the newer games that come out will need to be cracked if they need firmware 2.7 to run

No because the modchip will bypass EVERYTHING, so you can play and firmware game on any firmware..

yes, you switch to the 1.5 fw flash and you would boot games the way a normal 1.5 user would boot a game.

So from what I have read, if you install UP on say a 1.5 PSP, you would still have 1.5 on the PSP flash memory, but then you can install 2.71 or whatever the latest will be on the UP flash, and use that to boot UMDs etc? I read that when turn on the PSP you press L to go the the UP flash, or do nothing for it to boot normally. It sounds pretty cool, apparently there will be a video on ps2nfo soon of the modchip in action, look forward to seeing it.

i guess i missed alot .. so let me try and catch up .. so basically u guys are trying to say that the mod chip will play iso's when the psp is upgraded to 2.6 ...
or it will have both systems 1.5 and 2.6 ...
a few more questions.. will it affect the psp in any way ...
i havent graded my psp for about 6-7 months now .. still on 1.5 will i have any problems ..

i thought that isos woudnt be booted as normal dependin on custom firmware that would have its own iso loading that could load any iso without booting through dis n dat... cos day could just make a custome firmware with all 2.71+ features and have it read the iso as a umd from the menu. or isnt this possible. i thought it just made loading anything possible without having 2 fix things and things like hat

if you have fw 1.5 i say wait untill fw 3.00 comes out b/c there might be a way to play isos on that. But if you have a higher fw then wait for fw 3.00 but if u cant wait buy the mod chip

i very much doubt that 3.00 is gonna allow isos. i think sony r tryin their hardest 2 deny us that priveledge so im thinkin there gonna b pretty strict on it. i think they will make sure there is no loopholes in the firmware 4 a while b4 they release. but from what iv heard the chip has many advantages over 1.50 anyway.

It seems the modchip is more beneficial for people with 2.01+ who want the 1.5 features (i.e isos), rather than 1.5ers who want the features of 2.5+. I mean with devhook doing its thing you can have full 2.5 emulation on a 1.5, but I guess if the modchip allows dev of 2.71+ stuff then it will be worth it.

oh oh! some people will be upset. they just announced on qj that heres problems with the chip being compatible with psps produced october 2005 and onwards. im pretty sure mines ok as i bought mine in december second hand from a freind but theres a lot of ppl this will affect

I don't like (hate is too big of a word) the "playstation" things...I only got psp because Xbox Portable doesn't exist...but I am still happy with it, no doubt
