Hi
I've got a v.10 PS2 with a problem. When powered on I've got the red power light, but on pressing 'Reset' to turn on the console, the red light turns green for about two seconds and then back to red. Other than this there's no other activity. Is this PS2 dead? Does anyone know what the problem is? Any help would be great.

Encountered the same problem before. The problem there is your lens. It cannot read games that are in dvd format because the lens is becoming weak. Try playing games which is in cd format like tekken tag tournament and ps1 games and it will work just fine. You can adjust the laser voltage but its very risky if you dont know how.

Eh, I don't think it's the lens. As I said, I'm having difficulties just turning the console on. Anyone?

Do you hear a grind form the laser before your console shuts off? If you do, then it seems as though the On/Reset button is in such a way that it's stuck in the position when it's pressed. Try using the "Eject" button to turn it on. If it does the same thing, I think you need to buy a new On/Reset, Eject button assembly.

No, there's no sound from the laser, the fan doesn't start, there's no activity at all. If I try the eject button to turn the console on from standby, the same thing happens

Sounds like a damaged power supply. If no electricity is going anywhere(which I think is the case), I think you have to replace the power supply, but since it's inside the console, you have to open it up in order to repair it or replace it. Bring it to Sony or someone who knows things about the PlayStation 2 and ask him or her what's wrong with it.

There's electricity going through when the red light is on? I thought it just meant that the console was shut off! Anyways, all I can say is to bring it to a technician who knows the PlayStation 2 or to Sony and ask what's wrong because I have no clue what else it is. And, don't ever talk to me like that again. Oh, I just remembered, check your On/Reset ribbon cable. You need to open your console. You'll see a chrome cable as soon as the PlayStation 2 is opened. Check to see if it's pinched, torn, or disconnected. That's my last guess. Other than that, I can't help you anymore.

I am just going to take a shot at this. Maybe the fan for the CPU is broken and not spinning, the CPU could be overheating and causing it to crash. The Red Light could be like a warning light.

iPirate, the cosole doesn't even turn on. Dangerdre said that when he presses the Eject or On/Reset buttons, the red light goes green and then, two seconds later, it goes back to red, and there's no console activity, not the fan, not the laser, and not the tray. That red light means the console is on standby, the position it sits in when it's not in use.
Like I said, check your On/Reset, Eject button ribbon cable for damage. If it's damaged, replace it, see what happens. If it still doesn't work, then there's maybe something blown on the motherboard, I don't know. Bring it to a technician if the ribbon cable is not the problem.

Re:almark
It aint the lens!
Re:iPirate
Thanks for the suggestion about the fan, but I've now tried it with a different mobo and the console works perfectly. It looks like my problem is fuse related. Have you ever checked your mobo fuses? My motherboard is GH-026.
