Booting ps1 games from a ps2 flip top

After looking around on the web and various forums I see people stating that you can boot ps1 games from a ps2 using gameshark or AR Max. Having both of these I have yet to find a way to get ps1 back ups to boot. Is there some way that the gameshark or AR max discs can boot a ps1 game stand alone? That is without sacrificing a memory card. If so can someone please post exactly how to do it. Otherwise is there some method I left out, with the exception of an actual mod chip? Any help is appreciated.

you can use breaker pro to boot ps1 games

The version of gameshark has to be Version 2.2. This version comes with 2 disks, one for PS2 games and one for PS1 games. You would use the disk for PS1 games to boot the PS1 backups.
