help computer not detecting discs?

please help my dvd drive will play dvd/cd but when i try to copy anything it is not detecting discs cd-r or dvd?

are you sure it's a burner. You might just have a dvd/cd Rom drive. Be sure to check, that could be the issue, that you don't have an actual burner.

try uninstalling the drivers for your dvd burner and reinstalling them.
