I have a fliptop case.....Swap Magic 3.6

Im using the DVD to boot, when it gets to the "Load Program" screen i open the flip top and place a copy of Grand Theft Auto-Liberty City stories, and i also tried it with MSG3.

They both boot up, but in certain part of the games before the game actually starts, right after the intro movies i can hear the lens inside going crazy back and forth.

Is there anyway i can fix this?

What media did you use? It seems like a laser problem, try cleaning the lens and see if that helps

sounds like it's the media or the speed you burnt the Disc at.. Or a combo of both...

if you open the fliptop when the game is spinning and making that noise and it goes away and boots correctly.. it's more than likely the media & Burn speed..

PS2's perfer -R discs or +r's booktyped to DVD-ROM
PS2's don't like 16x media
burn no faster than 4x

heres something interesting that happened, maybe someone can help me out....

Im playing my original version of Resident Evil 4. And sometimes after a save point the Lens Inside goes nuts like it did with my backups and swap magic. I restart the system, load my game and continue playing normally till it happens again. its happened about 4 times now. Dont know what it is.

sounds like the laser is either going bad or needs an adjustment

Does the problem occur at the same place? It could be a laser problem, try cleaning the lens

If it's happening at the same place, it could be a bad burn. Try burning it again (and on better media)

welll.. heres what happened.

My original copy of Resident Evil 4 would start getting stuck to a point i couldnt continue, it annoyed me. I took a look @ the site tmfloria linked me to and basically ignored everything except for the lens readjustment part. I clicked the white thing a few clicks clockwise and tried it again. My Resident Evil 4 game wasnt freezing and i can continue to play normally.

I figured I'd try my Magic Swap discs and MGS4. So i tried it. Before my copy of metal gear solid 4 would induce the PS2 to go into a frenzy. But now IT WORKED!. All it took was the laser adjustment. Unfortunately my copy of GTA Liberty City Stories did not work. I assume its because of the media since im using generic media that only has "GQ Great Quality Media" on it. But if thats so how come MSG4 worked and GTA didnt. Maybe a bad burn. Anyways i'll continue testing it.

Yeah a lot of the PS2 has that problem because Sony adjust the laser so that it would last longer. By adjusting it you are giving it more power, which will probably make it last not as long, but if you were having trouble with it before, what you have now is a laser that won't last as long but works, instead of a laser that only works half the time but lasts longer.

Try Sony or Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R and hopefully you'll have better luck with those.
