I am new to the game. I have only burned one dvd to date. Was working on my second one using DVD shrink and Decryptor. The files analysed and encoded properly, when I went to burn the movie, I received the following error:

dough06,
Welcome to the forum. What that error message tells you is the burner does not like the blank media you are using. You might try a firmware update to see if that helps. What is the brand name and model # of the burner and what blank media are you using?

I am using a Sony DVD Direct drive (VRD-VC20). I am not sure about the brand of DVD-R's that I am using. They are 8x. I have used them before on one other occasion without any problems.

The firmware seems up to date. In DVD Decrypter when you are writing a disk, in the right hand window there is a column of information. Down in that column is a line header entitled, DISK ID. What is the DISK ID for your blank disks?

dough06 ,
I had to go and look up the MID code as I was not familiar w/ it. It seems to be either LG,HQ or some other brand and there are mixed results w/ that brand w/ it working sometimes and sometimes not working. Try and see if you can find some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank media as they are the better quality media. W/ getting the better quality blank media the problem might go away

This isn't very good quality media. Good quality media is that made by Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and Fuji and Sony disks that are labeled Made in Japan. Try one of the above and burn at 4X and see if your problems disappear. Generally if it doesn't say made in Japan on the package it won't be of the highest quality. Verbatim is the exception. Don't buy a lot of blank media until you find what your burner likes the best. If you're located in the States, Best Buy has the lower end Verbatim media for $15 per 50 count this week.

dough06,
If you can gently blow some compresses air into the DVD Opening and see if you can blow any dust that might be on the lens away. If it fails after that and you get the same message again the burn might be going bad. Can you do any other movie or is it like this for all burns?

Below is the Sony Drive diag:

the first dvd i burned went fine. i started having problems with the second dvd, but it eventually worked. ther problem came back with the third dvd, so i credited with the cheap DVD-R, and bought verbatims. so far i have gone through 3 verbatims and i am getting the same problem. not sure if the problem has anything to do with dvdshrink, dvd decryptor, both or the burner.

Hello dough06.

I'd buy a +RW disk for experimentation until this gets sorted out.

Here's some more suggestions:

Output an ISO image file from DVD Decrypter.
Download ImgBurn and use that to burn the ISO image file.

http://www.imgburn.com

Download Nero 6.6.0.18 and try burning the ISO image file with Nero. Nero can be downloaded here:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539

Post the Nero burn log back to this thread: The log is in the following path:

Programs Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory

Delete your name or any serial numbers before posting.

In fact I would do the Nero thing first because the burn log provides a lot of useful information in diagnosing problems.

How does IMGBurn work with DVD Shrink? DO you store all the files on your harddrive and then burn them using IMGBurn?

dough06,

Imgburn requires an ISO image file. Nero will take either an ISO image file or a folder of video files. DVD Shrink will output either. Since both ImgBurn and Nero will burn ISOs, just output the ISO from Shrink. So instead of selecting "ISO Image File and Burn with DVD Decrypter", select "ISO Image File".
