Is there any possible way to make a third party hdd have the same functions like the official hdd. If not what did sont really do to prevent this?

Yes, you can use just about any IDE style hard drive just like the kind you have in the PC

i don't think anyone bothers buying that "official" hard drive anyway. Too small.
I am getting a 250GB Western Digital installed in a new case
(HD Combo) with my slimline V12 right now.

I have a 120gb drive in my ps2 already and it works fine to run my games from. I just wanted to know why it doesn't show up in the browser like the offical drive

Not sure. I have A DMS4 Pro chip so any drive will show up in my browser.

Sony put some code in special sectors on the hard drive just like they do with games.
