HDAdvance vs. HDLoader

Is there a difference? From what I can tell, HDAdvance works with DVD-9 discs, whereas HDLoader only works with DVD-5... Is that correct?

Also, I seem to be hearing that HDAdvance can play backups, whereas HDLoader cannot.

I've also heard that HDAdvance is a "cheap ripoff" (or somewhere along those lines) of HDLoader... dunno how much truth that contains. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each and which would you recommend?

HDLoader was the original that started this playing games off HDD, then it was terminated due to various reasons. There are a few patched versions of HDLoader (current one is HDLoader 0.7e). HDAdvance is a pressed disc version of one of the patched version of HDLoader (0.7c or earlier... can't remember, but 0.7e was only released not too long ago) which you can use with unmodded PS2 (yes you can call it a cheap rip off the original - which it kind of is).

If you have a way to boot backups, I'd go with HDLoader 0.7e, it's newer than HDAdvance 3.0 and has better compatibility (and can do all the things HDAdvance can), otherwise you can buy HDAdvance 3.0 which is a pressed disc, so you can load it without modifying your PS2.

so would hd loader be better if you were just connecting the hard drive to the pc and installing games like that?

Installing games has nothing to do with HDAdvance or HDLoader - those two are programs to load games from the HDD once it's installed on the PS2. For installing games when the HDD is connected to the computer, I use winhiip and it works great.

ok cool, but can i like download games from a torrent and install them with winhiip? will hd loader b able to read it from the hdd when i connect it back to the ps2?
