Folks,
I'm just wondering on which DVD-R media I'm best off buying for my backup of my Xbox (1st gen.) games.
I've got a choice of Samsung Pleomax 8x DVD-R or Imation 8x DVD-R. I'm not sure which one will be more reliable for my burn.
I have an LG Super Multi Drive with 4x max writing for DVD-R.
Btw, I've used Samsung Pleomax DVD-Rs many times before, for DVD burns. No probs, and good quality burns, although my LG burnt those 8 speed Pleomax's at 2x.
Advice plz on which media you'd recommend for my Xbox game burns. (I'd read someplace that Imations aren't good for Xbox game burns. That was just one opinion. Need to hear yours!)
RS :)

Both thos media are most likely crap media. You should use dvd info pro to find the media code of the Pleomax Dvds though *Edit:Arniebear confirmed that they coded out as Optodisc which is still bad*, Most Imation Dvds are dreaded CMC-MAG, some are prodisc which is still crap. *Thanks Mort81 for the correction* . Good for frisbees I guess. If i were you I would use Taiyo Yuden dvd+r or -r, it does not matter. Second choice would be verbatim dvd+r or -r. Both these discs are best for xboxes and dvds as well. Note:some xboxes wont hardly read any media, there are a few instances where they wont even read those discs. (This is because different xboxes have different drives inside them). The discs you have may work in your dvd player and possibly in your xbox, but they will deteriorate your laser inside you dvd plater extremely bad until they wont read anything anymore. You can buy Verbatim media at Best Buy or other local retailers. To find Taiyo Yudens you must look at best buy to find Sony -r 8x Made In Japan on Upc spindle. You will have to search for those Taiyo Yudens or buy online at

Not all. Some are prodisc and still not recommended.

Thanks for all your replies! I was about to buy some Imations to try 'em out, and glad now that I didn't after you all weighed in. TYs aren't sold here yet in the nordic area (Finland) where I live, and North American online stores won't ship here. I have access to Verbatims and Ritek G05 (under the European brand name of Traxdata). How would you rate those Riteks compared to the Verbs? Anyone compared them?

Riteks are up there, and many people use them with success, but I would recommend the verbatims or if you want to try the Riteks I would buy a small bundle and burn a game to it and play it a lot to make sure dirty disc errors dont occur, then you can be sure they will work.

I too would recommend verbatim over ritek. Not saying ritek is bad media but I prefer verbatim. Personally, I even prefer verbatim over taiyo yuden. Xbox backups can be tricky and if you run into problems using verbatim (MCC) media, the problem is probably something besides the media used.
