how long should a dvd take to burn?

mines been going almost 30 minutes, its at 8x, how much freaking time should it take? it has about 4.3 gigs of info on it

i have no idea what that means, im leaving in 15 minutes, i need it before than, it just says transcoding...... than importing....
THAN IT DOES THE SAME THING!
the orange light isnt even on-im not sure its even burning it yet! its been almost a hour!

If its transcoding then you are not even burrning the DVD yet.
It isnt helpfull when your in such a hurry. If you want real help then find the time to sit down and tell us what programs you are using and what you are wanting to do to the DVD your burrning.

You are MULTITASKING while burning, thats not going to help speed things up.

Burning only times:
2.4x - approx 20 minutes
4x - less than 15 minutes
8x - less than 12 minutes
If you have longer burning times - you need to check if you are in DMA mode or have appropriate firmware installed.

Colw is about right..... my burn times with 8x is anywhere from 12-15mins. depending on the size of the movie. but if you're counting on transcoding time and if you're burning at once or if the program is using a temp folder first then transfering to the burner, then your times for full results can differ. Remember you have to consider the read time of the disk to transcode the movie and some disks are newer or older and will read faster or slower depending on the DVD itself. My usual times for using AnyDVD & Clone DVD (which uses a temp folder) is around 19mins at 8x burning! that's pretty fast! If I use DVDDecrypter or AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter and then use the best encoder there is: DVDRebuilder Pro with CCE/ProCoder2 I'll get times of over 3 hours in total, sometimes. It varies but if you take the time to do it right and allow the programs to work for you...... the end results is what you want..... a perfect backup of your DVD..... no matter what times you get. ohhhhhh and here is an explanation of DMA:

My burn time with 4x media is 14 to 15 minutes, with 8x it is half that which is 8 to 9 minutes. Of course if I put on some speed 16x is 4 to 5 minutes, lol :)

@IHOE: I'm reading this as you mean from start to finish for reading & burning. I use also AnyDVD & CloneDVD2, but my times run 45-50 minutes. I assume your speed is faster because of your pc setup -- it is definitely faster than mine.

why thank you TSquare...... I get total times from reading to burning in the 19mins range..... and that's burning at 8x with Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x media. It does take longer to print onto the disk after scanning the original:
both Taiyo Yuden printables....nice,huh!

Arniebear....... we are of the age that our childhood remembers the old movies that we watched while growing up. I remember the original ROBIN HOOD movies and others like KING KONG VS GODZILLA. hahahahahaha from spagetti westerns to CLOCKWORK ORANGE and 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA or all the HERUCLES movies with Steve Reeves. They might be dated but it's fun to watch CLASH OF THE TITANS and WEATHERING HEIGHTS. My mother got me into watching movies with her and it's been a popcorn experience since!
