A newbie to 'DVD Shrink' with just two questions first up ...

1. If I run 'DVD Shrink' with 'AnyDVD' in the background, when backing up a copy-protected movie, are there any settings in 'DVD Shrink' that I should turn off? (If so, I WOULD prefer to do the turning off in 'DVD Shrink' rather than in 'AnyDVD'.) Or can they be safely allowed to run at the same time without any adjustment?

2. The big one, as I see it. If you compile from a disc containing extras several items, and jettison the rest, you have to settle for a final disc without a menu. True? If so, does this mean that you must just start playing that disc until you arrive at, say, item 4, the only one, let's say, that you want to view today?

Or am I overlooking something?

If not - and forgive me for asking - but do such commercial products as '1 Click DVD Copy Pro' or 'Clone DVD2' do things better re providing menus/visible indexing of a final disc's content?

Thanks - Ken41

1. No special setup needed to use these two programs together. Just put your disc in and get to work.

2. You have three options to edit your disc with DVD Shrink.

a. Full disc, everything is included.
b. Reauthor, you get the movie only...no menus or special features etc.
c. Full disc mode insert still images in the parts that you don't want...leaving you with menus and the special feature item that you want.

CloneDVD will allow you to reathor and then preserve your menu, which is functional, except for the things you have edited out. You can also split a disk and still keep the menu on both.

To LocoEng. Thanks for your informative response, especially this:

I'm thinking it might look a bit unwieldy if there were, say, four items I wanted and, say, nine I didn't. But is there a technique to make/obtain the still images and to insert them? Is it (the technique) described somewhere?

Sorry if I'm asking rather a lot.

To answer my own question, LocoEng, I have found this promising tutorial: http://www.dvdshrink.info/still_image.php

I'll go and study it shortly!

All you do is highlight the item you don't want on the left side and look on the left side and in the drop down menu select "insert still image". DVD Shrink has default images it will insert or you can insert your own if you like.

EDIT: D'oh, you beat me to it...I was actually looking at linking that guide, but as it is a really simple task I didn't think you would need it.

Good luck and happy burning.
