I've been perusing the posts on bad media/bad burns, and have a couple questions.
1. I've used KHyperMedia, TDK, and now Fujifilm (all bought in Canada, no idea where made) and am burning with a TSS Corp (samsung?) DVD burner. Every now and then, I'll burn a movie, regardless whether with dvdshrink or whatever, though, always Nero, and the movie will play fine, but freeze at random points, and sometimes, be unplayable after that point. Is there a way to check for errors after it's burned? Meaning, rather than having to waste 2 hours watching it, is there a program that can check the disc?
2. I'm willing to pay for decent media, but I'm wondering if part of the problem is my burner. I bought a cleaning disc with that liquid, no idea if that's a waste. I've checked and one at least one firmware update to it.

Thoughts?

Nero has its own disc scanning tool. I think its called Nero scandisc or something. it is under the tools section in Nero startsmart menu. it will give you a quality score and show the errors in the discs.

It seems to me that the problem is the media.All that media except maybe the fujifilm is most likely the culprit in this situation.you should try some verbatim or if you can try to find some Taiyo Yuden Discs online but since you are in canada it will be hard. I found this page on supermediastore.com (Where I buy Taiyo Yuden Discs) that talked about third party mail forwarding services to ship orders from us online stores like theirs. http://supermediastore.com/international-order.html Hope that helps.

There's Nero CD/DVDSpeed and DVDInfo IF your burner supports error reporting...

EDIT: Check my profile for samples of quality scans...

When I first started burning, I didn't know any better, and I bought some Khypermedia blanks. I'm now having to redo all those movies on good media. TDK makes good cassette tapes, but sorry dvd blanks. FujiFilm makes good media, if you use the "Made in Japan" Fujis, not the "Made in Taiwan". It will say on the package, where it's made.
Good luck!

Try good media. If you still get bad burns, you may also have a problem with the burner. But, you do definately have a problem with the media right now.

gollumn- Jvc would'nt steer you wrong ! on using good media . Don't be ashamed about starting out with crappy media , I think we've all burned atleast one movie or game onto what amounts to expensive coasters! But you learn & burn with help from good people like Jvc- you should do just fine . good luck & happy burning...

@gollumn
The Made in Japan Fujis must be 8x to be good, also Sony MIJ 8x are same as Fuji MIJ and also Sony MIJ 16x if you can find one with a white octagonal spacer, not a grey circular one.

Bigtoxy now I didn't start out with Crappy media I just had to have some expensive Memosux coffee mug coasters that looked nice and have held up to this day. They still give me good memories of the new cuss words I learned back then. Chris
