Double layer DVD backups???

Hi everyone. Just got a new double layer DVD burner and was wondering if a double layer DVD will play on a stand-alone player. I'm hoping that I can use double layer discs to back up full movies (menus and all) without having to compress, but I don't want to waste a disc until I find out if it will play on a regular player on the tv. Thanks for any help or information!

Most of the newer players will probably play them, especially if you Booktype them to be DVD Roms. Movies you buy, are booktyped to DVD Rom. That's why they play in most players. Here is info on booktyping:
