OK, I am a n00b at PSP home-brew, but I pick things up quickly. So, here is my problem...I have managed to get Devhook .41d working and I can use the web browser and load 2.5FW ISOs and UMDs. However, I can't load my copy of GTA: LCS that requires 2.6FW. I have heard from more than one person that .41d can play 2.6FW ISOs & UMDs just fine. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. One more n00b question...I all of the tutorials for Devhook, it says to set the firmware to "2.50+2.00", I don't see this option in Devhook. All I have is 1.50(firmware), 1.50, 2.00, 2.50. Again thanks for the help!

Set the firmware to 2.50.
Download or buy an older GTA that requires 2.0

That would be one option, but I have read in forums where people are playing the new GTA:LCS as well as other 2.6FW only games. I will find them again and link in another post.

Do I need to rip an ISO and then replace the PRX files? If so, how does one go about replacing PRX files?
Thanks,

Try these. I am not sure if these will work w/ the 2.60 version of GTA, but if not, try these original 2.00 PRX files which came from the 2.00 version of GTA:
http://s21.quicksharing.com/v/826683/PRX2_0_0.zip.html
What you do is this:
Make you sure you have your ISO in the folders format. I.e., PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN. Follow this path:
PSP_GAME\SYSDIR - Delete the UPDATE folder. (That'll shrink it some)
Then, follow this path:
PSP_GAME\USRDIR and look for a folder called either
Kmod, Kmodule, Module, Mod, PRX - something along those lines. You'll know when you find the PRX files b/c all the files will say "xxxxx.prx" (Example: audiocodec.prx)
Be advised that most of the PRX files used in the 2.50/2.60 games are all upper-case and most all games below that are lower-case.
Anyway, match the PRX files in your PSP_GAME folder up w/ the PRX files on the site and d/l them. Those ones are decrypted. Then, just replace them.
To rebuild, you're gonna need both of these:
*VcdromX 3.6
*UMDGen
Search around Google for these, we don't like to 'spoon feed' here. Plus, doing your own research pays off! :)
Anyway, to build newer ISOs, you're gonna wanna use VcdromX and ISOs prior to 2.50 (including SOME 2.50) you can rebuild w/ UMDGen.
To rebuild w/ UMDGen, just drop the PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN into the largest white screen (on the right) in UMDGen. Click the SAVE icon (which is kind of like Microsoft Word's save icon) and choose your directory.
Two hours later (UMDGen takes a while) you'll have your ISO. Drop it in the "ISO" folder in your ms0.
Here is the read me for VcdromX:
http://s21.quicksharing.com/v/7002868/C2C_Thirst97_tribute._LOL_....
If you swap manually, you will have to hit "OK" when windows asks you if you wanna over write the files when you drag and drop those PRX files. (Source: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/4/351439)
Also, try this link for ALL decrypted PRX files which all of us here use:
http://prx.psp-tuts.net/prx/
a lot of info, but you asked. Hope that helps, homie.
EDIT: Try the Splinter Cell PRX files first to see if they match up. If not, then try psp-tuts.net/prx. Use the GTA:LCS PRX files as a LAST resort b/c I don't think they will work.

Guano! Thanks for the detailed post! I will mess around with those programs and PRXs and tell you guys what I come up with in a while. I do have one question...Could Yaius to rebuild/swap out PRX and will VcdromX 3.6 work for all UMDs or just >=2.5?
I will try to answer my own questions through experimenting. Thanks again.

OK, I got GTA: LCS to run. I ripped an ISO using DAX's Dumper and then deleted the UPDATE and replaced the PRX files with those from Splinter Cell. I compiled a ISO using UMDGEN (It only took about 5min to compile) and it worked. I have a question though...Does UMDGen compress the ISO? The GTA ISO was 1.2GB before I went and changed out the PRX/removed the update and it was 834MB afterwards.
Also, I have never seen GTA:LCS run from a UMD so I don't know how much loading lag there is, but I am getting a little in every intersection and when I turn corners. I was just wondering if that was normal. Thanks again for the PRXs and help! I am off to binge on GTA!
Thanks!

NP, dude. However, you don't wanna use Dax compression. It makes the game lag waaaay too much. I made the tutorial (w/ a little help from my friends) here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/341971
To get GTA even SMALLER, you could follow the ENTIRE tutorial except the DAX compression part. I got mine down to like 450MB or so. Just follow the tutorial and you can, too.
Yea, extracting the contents of the ISO and then rebuilding will make it smaller b/c by default, when you rebuild your ISO w/ UMDGen, Cel Padding (or w/e it's called) is OFF whereas the DAX umd dumper must've dumped w/ the cel padding ON. (This is esp evident w/ Fastloader v0.7 b/c whenever I dump, extract and recompile, the file is noticeably smaller)
Um, btw, can you send me a working copy of the Dax UMD dumper? (YOUR EXACT SETUP?) I've never had the patience to piece that together successfully and always wanted to get it working, but I'm not trying to go on a wild goose chase to get this file and that file. I did once, but I think I was drunk and never went back to it. If you will upload, (zip file/RAR) just use:
http://s21.quicksharing.com
I'm out of room on my memory sticks and this would be much appreciated! :)
Btw, VcdromX will work on ALL ISOs, but we [forum members] only suggest using it on the newer games b/c the newer games will ONLY work by recompiling w/ that app. Otherwise, if you can avoid it, do it b/c it takes way longer to compile an ISO w/ VcdromX than w/ UMDGen. UMDGen only takes 1/4 of the time and only has one step instead of 3 or 4 steps.

I get by with a little help from my friends too...:)Using the DAX Dumper I set it to no compression and ISO mode. After playing with GTA some more I think the lag is just that which would be normally experienced. Thanks for the explanation on why UMDGen reduces file size, it had me wondering. As for the DAX Dumper, I just downloaded it and put i on my MS. I didn't know you needed to add some files, I must have got a complete version. Anyway here is a link to it. http://s21.quicksharing.com/v/6685989/umddaxdumper02.zip.html
Thanks

Oh! I forgot...How does one go about removing music/videos from an ISO? I tried to just cut the music/videos in UMDGen on NFS: MW510 and It would skip the intro, go to the menu, then lock up as it tried to load the first crappy rap song. I did some research and I appears I need to use a "rip kit" or use a "file relinker"? Is this something you can easily improvise or should I find a rip kit? I just want to remove the intro/logo movies and all the music (crappy songs anyway).
Do I need YAUIS to properly delete the files? Does UMDGen not replace them with dummy files? I will try YAUIS in the mean time...
Thanks again

Are you deleting or dummying? You absolutely need to dummy them.

YAUIS dummies the files. In NFS: MW 5-1-0 I am deleting the update, all of the eatrax folder (the music) and I am removing the .loc language files that are not in English. I also remove the contents of the videos folder. The game gets to the first menu, where it says press start...then crashes. I am not sure what I am doing wrong...
