I can decrypt the DVD and save to HD, but when I shrink it, it comes up with an error. I'll post what the error says later, but I can watch the movie fine from the HD.

The error points to the main movie file as the problem and nothing else.

Any ideas on what the error could be before I post the error message?

Ditto. I have tried DVD Decripter and saved to HD. DVD Shrink encountered basically two problems. 1. When tried DVD Shrink alone it gives an error of Cyclical Redundancy error. It is not a bad disk at all. and 2. Ran out of Memory error comes when trying to use DVD Shrink after copying the files with DVD Decriptor to HD.
Apparently, Glory Road used a different algorithm or intentionally put bad sectors in VTS_01_0.VOB file.
Help !!!!!!!!!PETE !!!Help

Glory road has MacroVision's Riplock on it. So Shrink and decrypter will have some problems with it.

Rip with the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter (free) - 2.9.7.9 - then process those files thru Shrink.

I used AnyDVD & CloneDVD - no problems. Not free but has a 21 day trial. http://slysoft.com

Oops just realised - Macrovision's copy protection is Ripguard not riplock.

Yeah, I backed this one too with Shrink--but of course it's with AnyDVD.

God bless that program! lol

Seriously, use a newer program like AnyDVD or DVDFab.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Another way to get past the rip protection is to use a free program VobBlanker. If you look around the forum you will probably find a thread on how to use this program but I use that in conjuction with AnyDVD and Shrink and it always works to get past Macrovisions protection.

I'll look for the link to this program and post it in here

i used dvdfab/ran through vobBlanker/dvdshrink- done, another flawless backup. i run every movie through vobBlanker though, just to get rid of the junk. have never had one error through this process, other than a bad press every once in a while. this is a great combo.

Yeah I agree. You do these steps like tjedwards mentioned and you should never ever have a problem backing up a DVD.

Thanks TJ Edwards,
Originally, I have copied the files to hard disk using decriptor. I believe it cleared CSS and DVDshrink cannot copy it to DVDR because of Macrovision Ripgaurd. Now I fail to understand what dvdfab and vobblanker did. When I used DVDShrink it did the job. Also, I would like to ask different question. When DVDShrink writes the disk, it keeps the entire DVD files in a temp directory. Is it possible to generate another copy of DVD-R quickly without going to the entire process?

@yhripper
Since shrink doesn't have a burn engine you probably hae Nero. This is one program Shrink uses to autoburn.
In Nero Express you can burn another copy w/o having to run thru shrink again. Pick the dvd-video option - add the video_ts folder and burn.

Glory Road issue? All you need is DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE) to rip and the rest is history. If you want to get rid (blank out) unwanted junks i.e. FBI Warnings, rating logos, previews/trailers, etc., you can process the VIDEO_TS.IFO (already ripped VIDEO_TS file) through VobBlanker (FREE), then transcode with your desire engine and burn with your desire engine.

Best of lucks to all and happy burning.

Do you mean that I can replace DVDD with DVDFab? I understnd that part, but I do not understand DVD Blanker. I ran DVD Blanker but I got all that junk in other words I got 100% of original DVD. I will look into documentation of DVD Blanker. I used GUI not inline parameters.

This is just to make a correction. It is VOB Blanker not DVD Blanker. Yest I have Nero Ultra 6.X and I know DVD Shrink uses that, but I never thought that I could burn a DVD from a folder on Hard disk. I use Nero to burn the disk which uses another set of temporary files.

Yeah you can do that. If you use DVD Decrypter and rip the files to hard disk in whatever folder you want, you can then use DVD Shrink to shrink it to fit it to your dvd media. Then use Nero to burn it to the disk. I think the way your doing it might tend to produce more errors. It's your preference on what works for you but if ya have time just check a couple of the guides out on the different ways to rip a dvd and that should help ya out.

The VobBlanker programs allows you to get rid of all the trailers, making of the movie, subtitles, etc. What some movies have is the rip guard protection. All the protection is, is that the company will put a wasteful cell into the beginning of the movie. So when you try to open the files you just ripped to your hard drive with Shrink, it will encounter an error. Just make sure to notice what error shrink ran into and this will tell you when you open up VobBlanker what Vob file cell you need to blank out. Once you do this and run VobBlanker and it's finished then you should be able to open up Shrink and shrink away then burn it to disk. I personally never had one problem yet with this method using these programs and from reading other peoples post they seem to have the same success.

I just used DVD Shrink Version 3.0.2.15 with AnyDVD Version 6.0.1.1 and the movie ripped perfectly. Before I just used DVD Shrink by itself to copy the movie and there was an error. Also, you can try using CloneDVD2 if DVD Shrink doesn't work.
