Ok mate since your new il go easy on ya lol n keep it simple.

What your gonna need is some sort of device to allow you to play back up games like
o A Mod Chip
o Swap Magic
o Memcard exploit

I reccomend you go full out and get a mod chip but for effiency swap magic is simple and effective. Then what you gotta do is get DVD Decrypter, what you do is insert you blockbuster game and when the window appears select decrypt dvd with DVD Decrypter. Once you selectg a destination get your self some good blank dvd's ( look at the dvd back up discusion forum for the thread). then open DVD Decrypter and goto mode and iso - write. Select your iso file from the destination and click start. at around a speed of 4

Good luck hope that helps a little

Where Do I get Swap magic?

can only get Swap Magic at online stores. Never seen them in any regular stores. You will also need on other mod with swap magic but that will depend on what type of PS2 you have, fat or slim.

a mod chip is more expensive, but getting one installed is a far better choice.
you have a lot of research to start doing about how to back up games, what is the best media to use, what mods are best and so on.

I downloaded DVD Decrypter. I ripped a game to my computer. I'm now trying to write the game to a CD +R. It says there is not enough room, and I choose continue anyway. It then says

DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME)Failed!
Device:[1:1:0]_NEC DVD+RW ND-3530A 102B (E:)(ATA)
Unable to lock volume for exclusive access.
Reason: Access is Denied.

I then get a choice to Abort, Retry, or Ignore. If I choose ignore it says :
Failed to send Cue Sheet!

And a woman's voice says "Oh No!'

What's UP?

What steps are u taking to backup the game?

1.Option iso-read
2.Save it to your desktop
3.At 4X, use the .mdf as your source, go to option, iso-write, and burn

When I ripped it, I created a new folder to store the file in. I saved to that locationa, not the desktop. Ididn't do anything with .mdf (conciously), but it says that it is now Writing the image.

the .mdf should always be burrned if u have it. Although it says it less than 11 meg, it directs Decrypter on the proper way to burn the iso. Either way you should be fine. BTW, Do you evn hace a chip or Swap Magic?

Ok, a few things.
1. Yes you have to buy Swap Magic. It is for loading back up discs, and like PS2 games is a pressed disc. This means that a back up copy of Swap Magic is no different from a back up copy of a game. There is an area on the disc that your burner can not copy. So you still need an original copy of Swap Magic to load the back up. A complete waste of your time.

2. what is the game you are burning? Is it DVD or CD based?
DVD Decrypter will not do CD based games, it is for DVD only
hence the name DVD Decrypter. It will not burn a CD at all.
You need to use a quality DVD. That is why it is not working. There is not enough room on a CD for most DVD based games.
And do not use DVD-RW/DVD+RW as most PS2 games will not work well on those because the PS2 has trouble reading them. Get a GOOD QUALITY
8X DVD-R (if your buyrner can do -R)
if not a good quality 8X DVD+R

Ok, when I buy Swap MAgicv3.6, Do I need to make any additional mods or anything to my Ps2?

You do not have to check the quality i can tell you
Imation discs are not good at all
And using DVD+RW may not work so well. Most PS2's have a problem reading them. To check if your burner can do DVD-R you can do this:
1.click on my computer
2. right click on your DVD drive
3. choose properties
4. go to seetings tab and get the make and model number
5. now look it up on the internet and find a site that tells you which types of media it can burn.

With Swap Magic on a fat PS2 you still need one other mod.
you can go the real cheap way and make a slidecard out of thin plastice like a store credit card. see creating a slidecard at the link below
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html

or you can do it right and when you buy Swap Magic you can buy a set that has a fliptop lid. These are about $12 and are way easier, and also better for your PS2. Easy to install, and as long as you get them from a reputable store you should be fine.
http://www.gocybershopping.com/customer/product.php?productid=129...
something like that, just make 100% sure it is for the same version you have.
how do i know that you ask? Look at the sticker on your PS2 for something like this:
Identify what version PS2 you have
The version 1, 2 and 3 PlayStation 2 all have 10 screws on the bottom of the unit.

SCPH30001 v1 = Serial# begins U1
SCPH30001 v2 = Serial# begins U0
SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U1 Date 1A
SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U2 Date 0D

The versions 4 through 10 PlayStation 2 all have 8 screws on the bottom of the unit.

The 4 and 5 also have the electrical warning stamped on the bottom of the PlayStation 2 case.

SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U0
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U1
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U2
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U3
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U4
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U5
SCPH 35001 v4 = GT3 Edition

There are 3 different motherboards for the
SCPH30001R - Version 4, 5 and 6
SCPH30001R v5 or v6 Motherboard
SCPH39001 v7

SCPH50001 v9

SCPH50010 v10

Ok, from that info, I found I have a v4.
8 screws (covered by pads)
Electrical warning.
SCPH-30001 NTSC
Serail #: V33357B

v4 Right?

So I need the fliptop and Swap Magic. I think I'll go with the $30 package you posted. Is this right?

And I have 2 DVD drives. One is listed as DVD Drive and the other is DVD+RW drive. Do I click DLA or Hardware?

are you sure the first leter in your serial number is not
a "U" ?
all the above start with U
If it is U33357B then yes it is a V4
This means that you will have to burn on 8X DVD-R as the V4 and below do not read the DVD+R
Yes, get the package deal with the fliptop.
as far as the drive goes, are both DVD Burners, or is one a DVD Rom?
DVD+RW should be a burner for sure.
If the other is DVD-Rom then it means that it will read and play DVD's but can not burn them.

Just do as i instructed above.
click my computer, right click on the DVD+RW drive, from the dropdown list choose properties, when the properties come up you should have a tab that says settings, sorry mistyped that above
under the settings tab it will show your burners model number and the current firmware that it is using

Nope, No stteings tab. I have General, Autoplay, Hardware, DLA, Sharing, recording.

When I click Hardware, It has a list of the drives, and 2 of them say Disk Drives, and 2 say DVD/CD-R Drive. I can push a button to check the properties of those.

I'm using Windows XP if that matters.

that is alos what i have, Windows XP. but i see what you mean. my home computer shows the same tabs as yours, my work computer was different. So in that case go to hardware, highlight a drive, then click properties and it will show the same info.
