Hi, my question is, I have Winning Eleven 10 and was trying to burn it to DVD-R using Alcohol 120%. The DVD-Rs are Verbatims, but they are 16x, and this is where I think the problem could be, as everyone seems to use 8x DVD-Rs.
This is a 10-pack of DVD-Rs so I hope they aren't the wrong type! Anyway, I burned the game with Alcohol, and then when I tried it in my PS2 using Swap Magic, I got two different results.
The first time, Swap Magic stayed on a black screen for a bit and then somehow went back to the PS2 browser which said "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 disc". This had never happened before so I tried the game again, this time it just stayed on a black screen.
I'm really fed up now as I was really looking forward to playing this. So could any of you tell me if its one of these problems I think it is please:
- Could it be the DVD-Rs are 16x? The minimum speed Alcohol will let me burn them at is 6.8x, so maybe this is too fast.
- Or does the game need rebuilding? I noticed it's over 4GB, and I heard Swap Magic has problems with games over a certain size. I'm using Swap Magic 3.6
So hopefully one of you guys who know a lot about this can help me hopefully get this game working, I thought I'd ask before I waste yet another DVD :)

Ah OK, thanks for your quick reply :)
So it'd be best to rebuild this game then? (Winning Eleven 10). Most people say it works fine with SM3.6, but obviously for some reason or other I'm not one of the lucky ones

Sorry didn't make it clear, I just posted the link to rebuilding, but like you said, shouldn't need rebuilding to get this to work with SM3.6 (at least that's what I've heard from others - I don't have this game and I don't use SM)
Try using DVD Decrypter to burn this - have a look here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/353503

Thanks for your help, I'll give that a try. It is over 4GB though, so I'm not sure, I might try and rebuild it first using the guide you linked me to

I think the newer version PS2s tend to be less picky about the media

I don't have information about those Nexxtech they are made in Taiwan I would say they work about 80-95% success rate. I been using them for one year never had a problem with the v12.

are nexxtech discs cheap to buy? because i need to get a spindle pack so i can carry on backuping my games before soemone destroyes the originals. i found that though that Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs do work most of the time if you only burn at 4x or otherwise the game wont work at all because i used like two discs and burned them at 2x and the games did not work.

I'd personally go with quality over cheap media... a good quality 50 DVD-R spindle can't be more expensive than an original game, and keeping that in mind, I don't see why you'd want to go with something cheap that'll ruin your laser?

My Ver 6 PS2 play the 16x Verbs no problem.
To check compatability you could burn a movie instead of a game and see if it likes that??

PS2 seems to play movies a lot better than games, so burning a movie might not be the best idea... I'd just go with 8x cos they are generally easier to read plus they are cheaper anyway
