Dean_R- Being that they don't mention a brand name- I don't think you are getting a quality brand ( actual manufacturer) of these DL disc!Probably some generic stuff - Their store brand ! And the problem with that is online retailers store brands change Mid codes ( tells who made the disc) Even more than most Major Name Brands do ! which means that you may not get dvd media from the same manufacturer every order even if you order the same exact dvd's! So Even if you manage to get a Good batch of disc you may not be able to repeat that act. Also a lot of the off/non branded media available online have Bogus /counterfit Mid codes - borrowing the media code of popular media like taiyo yuden !If it says the dvd's are made anywhere but Japan and that the dvd's are Taiyo Yuden you've been had! Taiyo Yuden media = Japan only ! Also when you can get VERBATIM DVD+R DL's on sale for $2.00ea. Why spend $1.89 on crap ? were I looking for Dl media I would go Verbatim but to each his own good luck!

Agreed. Plus, these are a horrible deal. A 10-pack for $30? That's $3 per disc! Then there's shipping on top. Forget it. Pretty much every week, Best Buy and sometimes other retailers have DL for at or less than $2 per disc.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

I was hoping someone had bought these discs and could report if they were any good. I agree it is not worth taking a chance unless people on this forum had purchased these discs and confirmed they were good. Actually, $3.00 per disc seems to be a pretty good deal for DVD-R Dual Layer media. In my search most of the time I have seen prices $4.00+ a disc like the other -R dual layer media being sold by Americal. I purchased a 25 pack of Office Depot DVD+R DL media today for $25.00. It will be interesting to see if this media is any good. DVD+R media does not play in some of my DVD players so I want to try some dual layer DVD-R media for shits and giggles. Thanks for the replies.

I went to the Peabody, MA Office Depot store and there were none left. I asked one of the employees when they were expecting more 25 packs to be delivered. He checked the system and it said there were four 25 packs in stock. He went on a 15 minute search and found them. I bought one 25 pack. So as of 4:00 PM there were three 25 packs left. I don't know if you live close by but if you do you have 27 minutes to get over there.

Why anyone would risk purchasing no-name media is beyond me. At nearly $3 a disc, I would not call it a value especially when one does not know who manufactured the disc!

If DVD+ media does not play in your standalone DVD players, consider booktyping your backed up DVD+ movies. If your burner does not support booktyping, upgrade. The cost of a quality burner is so low now that if you upgrade your burner and switch to DVD+ DL media, it will have paid for itself in 40 burns!

The BenQ 1650 is under $40, including the shipping fees!
