Does the HDLoader suppose to boot if no HD in machine?

Before I install the net adapter and HD i want to make sure the HDLoader disc I burnt is ok , I tried to boot it couple of times on my PS2 (no memory card/hd/net adapter installed) and every time I get to the system window where is says " Playstation 2 disc" and then pressing X nothing happens.

Why is that?

HDloader is supposed to load up, but not exactly boot. IT will load and show you the "HD Not Found" as a "Hardware Error" dialog. So, you should be able to have it load. IF it doesn't load, I'm guessing your laser is having a hard time reading stuff. Also, you might want to try adding a dummy file to the iso. Some PS2's are picky about CDs with small size and don't like booting them up. Add at least a 200MB dummy file if the HDLoader disc doesn't already have one. IF it does, then I'm afraid you'll have to get ready to replace your laser as it is about to die. :(
