OK, I have a question I am sure someone here can answer for me.

I have been backing up movies for awhile now, DVD Shrink + AnyDVD. Never had a problem. However, I am becoming increasinly more and more irritated that everytime I put a DVD in my computer this Power DVD program kicks in and I have to wait for it to load the movie before I can close the program and then go about my business. Is there a way to shut this auto-run off?

I am not that computer savy, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to open the Configuration menu and uncheck the "Play automatically upon inserting disc" box.

Open PowerDVD and then click the icon that looks kinda like an axe hitting a T. (At least that's what it looks like to me.) That will open the Configuration menu.

When I open PowerDVD I don't see anything like that.

The options I have available under settings are:

General
-About PowerDVD
-Restore All Defaults

Video Display
-Display device screen ratio
-Widescreen movie display

DVD
-Audio Settings
-Video Settings
-Language Settings

Under none of those do I see andthing that looks like an axe hitting a T... am I missing something?

Thanks again.

I'm actually looking at that PowerDVD "Skin"...that thing that looks like a radio....

Try right clicking the PowerDVD screen and selecting Configuration.

The menu looks like this:

Play
Stop
Pause
Previous
Next
Go To...
Forward...
Backward...
Full Screen
----------
Configuration...
About...
Exit

hmmm... I don't have any of those options...

I think this may be because this version on PowerDVD that I have was bundled in the Dell computer I bought several months ago. It's not a product I purchased and specifically put on the computer... does that matter at all?

Thanks so much for the help though.

PowerDVD 4.0 came bundled with my old Sony Vaio so I would imagine that it is the same or similar to yours.
Basically I just start PowerDVD and right click the screen to bring up that options menu. You should have some sort of menu come up when you right click. How else would you toggle from full screen and back?

You can also try going into your drive properties and make sure you have it setup correctly. Go into My Computer, then right click on your DVD Drive, choose properties, then the autoplay tab, browse to DVD Movie and make sure it reads ask me what I want to do.

That will definitely have PowerDVD as the default action.
Thanks, Arniebear!

You are welcome fasfrank, I hope it works, I had PowerDVD which came with my old Dell and it was a nag. Don't even have it installed anymore cause WMP and Nero Showtime do the same thing.

OK, I am very irritated now... lol

I did as arniebear suggested, and then put in a DVD to check... same thing happened. So, then I went back in and selected 'No action'. Again it still autoplays PowerDVD.

I guess I could always just uninstall PowerDVD and use the Nero movie player that I have... if I can't figure out a way to get it to stop.

On my screen the PowerDVD doesn't give me any options and doesn't have a 'skin'. It automatically becomes full screen. To make it smaller I just click on the box in the upper right to shrink it. Alot like Internet Explorer's minimize buttons.

Any other ideas guys?

Thanks agaon for being patient with me.

Go into My Computer, use the folder tab, go to the drive that has your movie disk in it. Find the VTS folder and the right Click on the VTS file, choose properties see if it shows Power DVD, if so hit change and then choose WMP and see if this stops Power DVD.

I feel like I am being a bother here, if I am forgive me.

I did what you suggested and at the point where I right click on the VTS file, there is nothing there above 'location' on your image. There is no 'open with' or 'type of file' line.

I have no idea what else to do short of uninstalling the program which I would rather not do, but it seems I may have to anyway.

OK, I just selected the first VTS file. And got the info your image has... but it says to open with Nero... but that doesn't happen. Now I am even more confused... lol

At this point I'd uninstall it. You should have gotten a PowerDVD CD so you can reinstall it. When you reinstall, see what options it has, as far as assoiated file types it opens with. I'd select None and then open it as needed.

You can find the instructions for this program here:
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/guides_1_ENU.html

You need to find out your version number and then download the appropriate file.
