I just joined up after reading some recomendations about this site. I just read through the Newbies guide in this forum, but didn't see my answer in there.

I have no idea who made my DVDRW. In my Device Manager it shows up as "DVDRW IDE 16X". My DVDRW will not write DVDs, it will burn CDs with no problem, but never DVDs. I have tried both types of media...

Any ideas?

Hello Josh and welcome to AD.

Your drive is more than likely an I/O Magic, rebadged BTC. Did you buy this drive and install it or was it preinstalled on your PC?

Run this handy little app, it will tell us your model number and current firmware version as well as who makes your DVD's (hint: put a DVD in the drive).

Post back the results.

As far as I can tell your firmware is the latest and greatest for that drive and your media is top notch TY. The drive is actually a BTC which isn't really known for being a great manufacturer. What are you trying to put onto a DVD, a movie or data? What is your process? What programs do you use to rip/burn?

I am trying to use DVDs for movies. Using Nero to burn. Not sure what program is being used to rip (fiance's computer. I know she has image files for the movie on the HDD, but they just won't burn...

I also wanted to rip the openings from my Anime DVDs and make a compilation to watch. So any program that could help me with that or with making an AMV would be great.

For backing up movies that you own, google and download the programs in the following guide and then use the guide:

As for the piecing together of clips you should be able to use Nero Vision.
