Hi,
I am looking to mod my PS2, slim, but I am completely lost. I looked at the following site:

http://www.modchip.com/ps2/

and I don't know which one of those to get to actually, most easily mod my PS2. The swap magic discs, do they require the flip tops, or slide card, or will it work without it? Is there any way to permanently mod the PS2 without having to install some new hardware inside it and ruin the warranty. What exactly does the flip top, or slide card do with the swap magic discs, and I have to insert the swap magic discs in everytime I want to play a game? Can someone please guide me through this, I am very lost. Which of the methods is the best for modding PS2 (to play backups and imported games), without screwing up the PS2 or installing any new hardware inside. Thanks :)!

Regards,

The best method is buying a chip, and the DMS chip is your best bet. It play backups, DVD-9s, as well as ps1 backups. Its worth the cash. I use swap magic with a flip top. Either mehtod you go with will void your warranty, but the warranty is only good for 90 days, so it really doesnt matter. Swap Magic does require swapping for each game, but its the cheapest alternative to a chip. The only drawback is that it doesnt boot backed up ps1 games, and you will have to purchase Breaker Pro if this is an issue, which is another $20. If you dont want to buy a fliptop, you can always use the tape and tissue mod, which is free. Here is a link for that mod

Whatever method you chose will work fine, but chips are always the best.

If you have a slim ps2 chip it or use swap magic but but you will need to use 1 of the parts below

1)Slim tool pro (If you have a v12 ps2 works on 13/14 but requires you to bend a part to put it in)
2)Magic keys 2 (works on v12-v14 )

Slim tool pro will void your warranty if you try and insert it into a v13-v14 ps2 because you will be required to bend a aliminium piece.

Magic keys 2 will not void your warranty.

Chip will be more reliable at playing games but bot much diffference your choice

I would go for the Actel DMS 4 pro with the latset bios update

Hi,
Thanks for the reply guys, but is there any way I can mod it without voiding my warranty, because I have got extended warranty from best buy, and I would not like to ruin it. Can someone tell me, out of these choices, which one is the best, which will allow me to play imported games, backups, of both PS2 and PS1?

MagicKeys II Set 3.8 for "slim" PS Two
Slide Card Combo 3.8
MagicKeys II Set 3.6 for "slim" PS Two
Slim Kit Pro 3.6 for "slim" PS Two
Slide Card Combo 3.6
Flip Top Set 3.6 for "slim" PS Two

Those are all on the site I have given. They all say I can mod the PS2 without voiding my warranty, and that is what I would like. Which of the above is best for backups and imports of both PS2 and PS1 games?

Magic Keys 3.6 or the slim kit pro 3.6 would be your best bet.

However, in order to play your PS1 games (burnt, not original), you will need another boot disc called Breaker Pro.

Hi,
How do you find out which version of PS2 you have? I am going to buy a PS2 from BestBuy, the slim version, and how do I find out which version it is?

The version number is on the PS2 box, it's something like SCPH-7xxxx, since's it's a slim the number will start with 7, and it'll be followed by 4 digits, then you can have a look here: http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm
