I'm new to the 360 scene....as in less than 24hrs of ownin' one. How can I find out which drive I have? I'm not currently at home, but at work. I wanted to get this question in and maybe I'll have an answer when I get home.

The original post in this thread was created back in July of 2006. It is now February of 2007. is there a way to create backups without actually opening the 360 and without actually opening the dvd-rom drive?

Am I also correct in reading that you must use the xbox360 drive to rip games for backups? I currently have a benq burner. I guess I should go and buy the 111d, yes?

I have a problem and it's been bothering me...I was able to rip the Game fine with Wxripper but when i load it with SSmerger 1.6, it doesn't take long at all. Also after I loaded the SS.bin file and merge, it just took a split second and it's done. I end up with a file that's not even a .DVD file and NO .000 or .001 file. If anyone has a solution for this, please reply.....Thanks
Tank

You done have to use the xbox 360 drive to rip games, you can use the hotswap method using any normal pc drive, or you can buy a SH-d162 drive abnd flash it with kreons firmware, and it will easily backup games.

Okay, so I cannot use my BenQ to put them on my HDD and wait until I get a new burner to put them onto DVD's? I have no intention of burning them ATM.

Sorry, i meant to say you dont have to use the 360 drive, not done have you.
You can back the games up onto your hd, and then burn them at a later time.

HI,
I hav hotswapped fifa 2007, but when i put it on ss merger it asks if it shud find the md5 number. when i click yes then it just keeps loading - does not respond. when i click no for the md5 number it loads up straight away and when i merge it i get a 1kb file. i then burned it on clonecd bt 360 says the disk needs 2b cleaned. is this bcos i didnt load up the md5 number? i did the exact same for G O W and that worked perfectly, can som1 tell me where i am goin wrong?

such a noobie here but ive done 5 nights worth of research so please be kind. here is what i have:
-Lite-on shw-1635sx DVD+R DL capable
-Sony DL discs
-toshiba laptop
I would totally buy the great samsung drive to do my hotswap but i only have a laptop, therefore i got the lite-on which is usb connection. So i tried backing up my call of duty 3. Did the whole wxripper thing. got the the iso file. ssmerger was a bit confusing. After i opened up the iso file it gave me some error message along with all sorts of coding i dont understand. it gave me the iso md5 and left the required ss md5 part blank and red. I then searched for the ss file md5 at ss.modfiles but couldnt find a "verified" NTSC ss file for call of duty 3. so i did a search and came up with a whole bunch of unverified ss files. So i input one of them into ssmerger and got my .dvd file. burned that with cdcopy and my disc is not recognizing in my x360. it doesnt say Play game on my dashboard or anything. Its 4am and im pulling my hair out. please help.

Just thought id say, iv found a good replacement media to verbatims
Xbox Drive : Samsung
DVD Burner : Pioneer 111d (latestfirmware)
Ripping Drive : Samsung SH-DC162 (KREON V0.81)
Ripping Software: Schtrom360xtract v3.1
Burning Software: Xbox Backup Creator v2.3
Media : Bulkpaq 2.4x
The medias cheap, 25 disks for £15
The software cost nothing
(And the drives for me came with the pc without me knowing, only had to upgrade firmware! pretty lucky!)
AND IT WORKS
Just thought id tell you all, because i dont know about you but in england the cheapest verbs i can find are £45 for 25, and im not paying tht over and over!

as far as I know, you need to use dual layer for 360 games......they are more than 4.7 gig

*also..I found I could copy the copied games with Nero, save as an image file on hard drive, then copy to dual layer, used verbatamin discs and can copy at 8x speed no probs, this is with pioneer 111 with firmware update and make sure you got the latest right ide cable fitted, the 80 wire one....
