I dont think it matters what windows you have as long as you have a dvd burner ( Dual layer if youre burning 360 games,) that supports it. But like i said if you got the newest xtreme firmware it shouldnt matter anymore. :)

you'd have to find out what burner is in your computer and google it.
remember, free comes cheap, but not necessarily easy...you gotta do some more leg work...google, google some more and read............

I have a moded 360 I was wondering what kind of drive is necessary to make the rip (which pc driv? can I use my DELL DVD+RW/r) then use my dvd+dl using hot swap.

Any PC DVD+R DL burner should work, so if your drive can read and write DVD+R DL then you should be fine when using the hotswap method.

can we get some info on where to find these programs?
oh and BTW I got me a DVD R DL combo and got me this program on the net which I already tried and it allows me to create ISOs out of my original CDs but I havent yet found a way to burn a working copy

OK the best way to rip your game from original disk is to get the
Samsung DVD DRive SH D162C and flash it with Kreon .81 you can get the drive off ebay soem of them are already flashed as well, this is where i got mine and works great. Next you need a Dual Layer Burner Lot of people recomend Pioneer 111D I personally use LiteOn works great. Second you will need couple of programs. I use ImgBurn and Xbox Backup Creator 2.4 here is a goood tutorial and i think it even has the necisary programs i could be wrong, just lazy to check lol.

Oh PS sometimes if you follow the instructions correctly and hten you go to test and it doesnt play it most likely because you use bad media, Every1 recommends Verbatim DVD+R DL they are the best! i have been using Memorex they work but not the best and im about to get me some Verbatims as well soon as pay day comes around :)

first of all i'm sorry if this has been answered already! i'v down loaded a game un rared it and got 2 files a dvd image file that is 1KB and a 000 image file that's 7,395,392 KB . when i open img burn or clonecd they only recognise the 1KB dvd file i'v tried burning this and every thing gos fine until i try them in my moded 360 and i just get please cleen disk or restart console! i'm burning with a sony DRU810-A dl on to memorex dl disks can any one tell me where i'm going wrong ? cos i now own 10 costers and it's getting expensive.

hey guys..sorry..i'm new to this..just got my xbox this week..XTreme Firmware Update is a mod chip right? after you install this chip..can you still play xbox live? will you get caught? or is there a chance of getting caught? sorry...i'm a rookie...

XTreme Firmware Update is a mod chip right? -- NO...it's hacked firmware that gets flashed to the 360 dvd drive

LOL...MS hasn't dropped the "ban hammer" yet..but yes there is a possibility that they can detect it, but as of today (3.23.07) they haven't done anything about it (why? depends on who you're asking...I'm of the opinion that they shot their self in the foot w/ the security on the 360 and they can't or haven't figured out how to detect it yet...however, I could be very wrong, they may be gathering data and are waiting til they have all of their ducks in a row to do a mass banning...maybe the spring update? who knows, regardless, as it stands right now you can play backups on xbl...so get it while the gettin's good)

OK....so i have a Samsung sh-s182d burner...its DL...i wanna know would it benefit me to use the KREON firmware on my burner?? Does it mean I can do 1:1 rips?? And this would also mean that I would still flash my 360 dvd drive with XTREME right?? the tuts dont talk bout KREON so I was wondering for personal reasons....I wanna know the easiest way for me to do this since I have a samsung burner and my MS-25 Samsung in the 360...any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks.

this is a good guide besure to get all the necisary programs, they provide on that site.
also are you sure the game you dl is your region? not all games are region free and not all are NTSC or PAL you need to know which one your system is. And make sure you know what the game region is as well.

OK here first off you dont put Kreon on your burner you put Kreon on your Samsung DVD-ROm DRive SH-D162C and flash with Kreon v.81(not burner)
Yes you can use this to rip your original game to your HDD and then back to a Blank DL Disk (recommended Verbatim DVD+R DL)
of course you do not need this drive you if wish to save money and in order to copy your original games, you would need to take apart your 360 every single time you wanted to copy a new game, a hastle if you ask me, so just get the drive.

So the KREON FW only works for a dvd-rom instead of a burner?? is this for real or just personal experience boss? I thought I had read somewhere that it didn't matter if it was a burner or a rom drive....guess its back to the drawing board....

i was almost certain i had read it about samsung in general...but im going to research it some more...because if i went through the trouble getting the drive only to have to go through the same method as everyone else when I thought it was easier...guess im gonna have to bite the bullet on this then huh?? if anyone has any good info on my situation and doesn't mind...send me whatever you get in the form of a PM...i would appreciate it...need as much information or guides to work with this Samsung sh-s182d as possible...im not buying another drive just for this situation...i'll just see if the KREON cats have found a way to hook up burners too!!

Well i have looked and i cant see anything as of right now that lets you use any other drive then the samsung drive so that it can read your 360 games.
in my opinion you have 2 options
1. Take your DVD-ROm drive you just got back to where ever you got it. Or Resale it soemwhere ex. EBAY, Amazon
2. Keep the drive to watch movies on your PC and open your xbox360 every time you want to rip a game from original disk.

yes certainly is, simply buy a samsung driveSH-D162C, flash it with a kreon flash and then extract with xbox creator and burn with img burner. no mucking around and you can pick up a samsung SH-D162C for around 50-60 $ the rest is easily found

I'm still having problems Have burned some games using Datawrite +r d/l and I still get this disk is dirty stuff. I bought some games and they played fine, what is wrong.

assuming by "bought some games and they played fine" means you bought bootlegs...why? I won't even try to help you now. But, if you mean retail games then I'll try....are you using either clonecd or imgburn to burn and are you using the latest version? Also, are you opening the .dvd file in either of those applications?

Yeah I bought original games. I got the dvd file and as soon as i run either clone cd/imgburn I get errors and new coasters instead of games.

having not been able to find the original post by fatjohnny so I could see the message in it's full context, I'd like to chime in here.....in order to flash the firmware on your x360 dvd drive you HAVE to open the 360 to gain access to the dvd drive. If you're looking for a simple way to rip games w/o having to open your 360 everytime, then yes, the SH-D162C is the way to go.

im trying to back my original PAL moto gp and it doesnt read on my xbox 360 it says unplayable and i tried to do it few times and it fails on my dvd writer

had the smae problem when i first started backing up my games,
it soon went though when i installed a PIONEER 111D drive in my pc
